The room was silent for a moment. He felt his heart pounding...pounding....bum bum...bum bum...bum bum. Then he felt her hand clasp his. He squeezed it gently and said nothing. He looked at her and opened his mouth to say something...but closed it when he could find no words to speak. He smiled and helped cut another piece of chicken. He sprinkled some salt and pepper into the big pot of soup and continued to hold Rhys hand. He was enjoying himself in this simple endeavor. He was happy to spend time alone with Rhys. It was an odd pair indeed. She had hardly spoken to anyone...yet she spoke to him much...and here she was holding his hand.
"I meant to say that in my head. But I'm glad it came out."
He said looking into her eyes. He placed the pieces of diced chicken into the pot. He stood there holding her hand...never wanting to let go...but knowing he'd have to.

The pair finished putting the ingredients into the soup, rather quickly. They worked quickly, and smoothly. They were comfortable next to each other, with work to do. But now, there was nothing to occupy Rhys's mind. She stood staring at Mark for a moment.
Her eyes took in his blue eyes and black hair. He was handsome, the kind of man that could turn quite a few eyes. And he was sweet, and looked out for her. Yes, he had his insane moments, but doesn't everyone? She smiled at him, one hand reaching out and running through his hair gently.
Her mind had stopped working at this point. All she could do was think of his words and the tingles she had from their clasped hands.

He felt Rhys run her hand through his hair. He rubbed her hand with his and then drew closer to her and kissed her. This time he was not scared and kissed her on the lips. It was a passionate, delicate kiss. He pulled away softly and ran his hand down her face slowly. This was a moment he never wanted to let go of.
"My hearts pounding."
He said in a whisper. He didn't know what else to say at the moment. He leaned closer to her and whispered in her ear softly:
"I love you."

Mark kissed her gently and she almost melted. Leaning into him for support. She tingled all over, her heart pounding wildly. Rhys had been kissed before, but this was different. He was different from the others, he actually cared.
As he murmured the three fateful words, she drew back. Memories came flooding back. Memories of painful nights and memories of lost loved ones. She had memories of love that killed, and she pulled away. She wanted to run, but there was no where to go.
"How?" she murmured out loud, more talking to herself than to her companion. "I'm not supposed to fall for anyone! I'm not supposed to be friends with anyone! I just wanted to live a quiet life in my cabin."

Mark pondered her words, for he had heard them. He looked her in the eyes.
"How can I love you? It's simple. We met....we talked....we had things in common....you started talking more....I learned more about you....and I began to fall for you. So here we are. What do you mean you weren't supposed to love? Love is a gift...some would call it a blessing Rhys. I have never been in love before....now that I know what it is and how it feels I understand what all those people meant. It is a gift. You saved me Rhys. Not only in the jungle but you saved me from a path I did not want...lonelyness....I was so lonely before you came into my life Rhys. So yes....I do love you."
He could sense that she was thinking about the past.
"I know it seems that all those you love seem to die...or disapeare. I used to think that...but Sam....he is like a brother to me...I know he isn't going anywhere. And you can gurantee I won't go anywhere. Don't fear love Rhys....don't fear it."
He didn't know what else to say. He felt a tear roll down his face. He could not tell if they were tears of saddness...of joy....or just plain tears.

"How can you be so sure? How do you know it's love? I've had enough men after me claiming to love me when it was just lust. I've been left bruised and battered at the side of the street because of it," Rhys managed to say. "How do you know that it's not just lust?"
"That" she moved towards him, "after" she ran a hand down his chest. "you," she broke off to kiss him passionately, "have," her free hand began to pull his shirt out of his pants while she kissed him once again. "Me," her hand slipped under his shirt running up his chest "you'll" she trailed kisses across his face "still" her hands quickly slid his shirt off "be here," she ended pulling his lips against hers in a deep kiss.
She was upset, and knew that if she just gave him what he wanted, she could go back to living in peice. True, it would hurt for a while, and she would regret having let herself slip under his spell, but she would go back to normal eventually.

He pondered a moment over her first sentence
"I would never leave you like that and you know it....and..."
Suddenly she was kissing him and his shirt was off. He pushed her away softly.
"What are you doing?...I'm....I don't think I'm ready for this."
He said putting his shirt back on.
"I know it isn't lust...if it was I would have continued. I care for you Rhys. Is that so hard to undersand? I don't want to leave you in the streets like those other men...I'm not like that. I love you Rhys. It's not lust I know it isn't."
He felt his heart crack. It saddened him to think that she didn't know what love was...that she thought he just wanted her body. He was cared about her. He rubbed his hand down her face once more.
"I care about..."
He spoke in almost a whisper. He tucked his shirt in and sat down at the big table in the dinning area. He lay his head down into his arms trying to think. But her eyes...so looking at him with so much saddness filled his thoughts. He began to cry a bit. He did not care if she saw him cry. So many emotions ran through him. He couldn't believe she didn't believe him.

"Mark..." she breathed when he started to cry. Giving up she made her way over to him and sat down. She rubbed his back gently. "I'm sorry, Mark," she whispered. It hurt her to see him so upset, especially when she caused it, but she couldn't lie to him and say that she loved him. Not when she didn't.
Yet, her mind drifted back to the fateful day when he had blown up the Pearl. The day in which, she had begged first Mark, then Sam, then Jack for help. The day she had kept returning to him. For some reason she had been concerned for him, had wanted him to live. She had wished for him to comfort her. He was a source of joy.
Before she could stop herself, she whispered, "Teach me... I don't know if I can love, but if I can it would probably be you."

He sat up when she rubbed his back. He wasn't crying anymore...he looked her in the eyes.
"Teach you to love? Of course I will. No one should live life without experienceing love. You hace gone through so much bad things in your young life...I'm here to change that. I want you to be happy Rhys. That's all I want. How about we start of with some dinner?"
He took her hand and stood her up gently. He knelt down and kissed her hand.
"Dinner madam?"
He asked as he kissed her hand. He smiled and took her arm in his and led her to his cabin. He already had plates set up from earlier. He pulled out her chair and signaled for her to sit. He went back to the kitchen and got two bowls of soup. When he came back to the cabin he sad down and got out a bottle of wine and poured two glasses.
"Well the moment of truth. Now we get to see if we can cook together again."
he said with a grin.
"Let's make a toast shall we? What should we toast to?"
He asked as he raised his glass. He had a smile on his face...he figured this was sort of a date. He didn't want to rush anything so he didn't say anything.
"How about to new begginnings? I think that fits our situation rather well don't you?"
He said as he clanged his glass to hers. He took a small sip of wine and then brought a spoon full of soup to his mouth. He placed it in and swallowed it.
'Not to bad if I do say so myself."
He was relieved that thier first meal together wasn't a disastor.

Rhys found herself being brought out of the galley and led to Mark's cabin. She blinked in amazement, the table was set and waiting. He disappeared and reappeared with two bowls of their freshly made soup. A toast was made and she lifted her wine in cheers, taking a sip.
She was rather quiet, pondering what had happened over the last hour. Yet, she seemed at peace. Smiling, she cautiously tasted the soup and her grin widened. "We need to cook together more often," she told him quietly.
At the sound of a new voice in the room, a small squeaking started from a box near the bed. Rhys eyed the box warily, unsure of what Mark owned that could make a noise. Yet the next moment she saw a small little nose and whiskers peaking overe the side of the box and she left out a little giggle.
She had a special fondness for rodents, mice or rats, she happened to like them. She felt close to them after so many nights sleeping in the streets.

Mark noticed that Rhys was looking at Lucky. He grinned and put down his spoon. He brought Lucky out of the box and handed him to Rhys.
"Found him down in the canon room. I brought him up here and fed the poor little guy. Named him Lucky."
Mark said. The little creature seemed to like her. It's wiskers moved quickly as it smelled her.
"Couldn't leave the puny little creature down there in the dark all by his lonesome. Cute little guy isn't he?"
Mark took another sip of soup and then handed Rhys a piece of carrot from his soup.
"I think he'll like that. I'm just glad to see a girl that isn't afraid of the little guys. I don't understand the fright of a little 2 inch long mouse."
Mark said with a laugh. Lucky brought out another side of Rhys. She was good around animals it seemed. Lucky liked her a lot from what he could tell.
"Did you ever have any pets growing up?"
Mark asked trying to stir up conversation...he just prayed it wouldn't lead to a bad memory, for she seemed to be full of them.

The red-head laughed as the little mouse sniffed her, his whiskers tickling her fingers. "He's adorable!" she crowed holding the tiny mouse close. She took the carrot from Mark and held it out to Lucky, watching as he nibbled on the vegtable.
"I had a pet worm when I was three," she said with a small laugh. "No, in all actuality the closest I had to a pet was a squirrel that lived in Port Royal. I used to give him some of my food when I could, and he would bring me odd things. I remember he once brought me a little button, another time some matches that turned out to be rather useful. He was cute, he would sit on my hand like this and eat, when the wind was blowing. It made me happy for days on end." She smiled remembering the good days.
"What of you?" she asked. "Ever have a pet before little Lucky here?" A small laugh escaped her lips as the mouse finished his carrot and scampered up her arm to bury himself in her hair.

Mark laughed as Lucky went into her red hair. He pondered a moment.
"I was always coming home with some sort of animal...I always let them go free after I showed them to my mother who took interest into what I would show her. When I was a boy we had a hunting dog...his name was Max. I had my own dog.....he was a Jack Russel Terrior. His name was Alexander....after Alexander the Great. I thought it was a fitting name for him because he was so small but he thought he was like a German Shepard or something. We grew up together. He was my best friend till he died. He was a really loyal little dog too. Once this boy from school hit me in my front yard and Alexander came bursting onto the scene and tore that boy a new one."
He laughed a bit at the memory. He grinned at Rhys.
"Do you know anything about penguins Rhys?"
He asked in a serious tone. He had a point with this comment and wanted to see what she knew. It would be an important lesson to her. He suddenly thought of a question that was way off subject.
"I just noticed that we are sailing to no where. We must be going some place...would you happen to know where?

*Eric raised a brow and watched her, curiosity and unease filling his dark eyes. She said nothing and allowed a rigid silence to fill the room as she fumbled with her bandanna. The grin slipped from his lips, leaving a small frown in its wake as his hands found their way inside his pockets. His eyes lowered and he surveyed the old boarded floor. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything at all.
It wasn't until she spoke again that his eyes lifted, landing upon her and his frown remained. What did she mean by "no,Eric?" She was s tepping towards him slowly and he wasn't sure how exactly she had taken the news of his nightmare. Obviously she took it to heart, at least in some way or another. However as she started to speak again he smiled warmly. She threw the bandanna about his neck and kissed him. When they parted he laughed a little.* Im holding you to that. *He grinned, referring to when she said he'd never loose her.
He placed his hand atop hers when she put it on his chest and embraced her for a long moment before slowly pulling away with a sigh. It had been a horrible thing to see her in that nightmare, to see her in the way that he had. But her words and her presence eased it greatly. He threw his arm about her shoulders, holding her against him as he smiled down at her.* C'mon, lets go back up on deck. No point in being cooped up inside all day when you finally got to get back out to sea. *He laughed and led her from the room.*

:::Puck smirked at Evelyn when he came back up on deck then nodded as she left.::
::maybe being with this crew wouldn't be so bad after all. He thought this over a few minutes and seeing that most of them appeared to knwo what to do and how he watched them. ::
:::interesting creatures humans were. So concerned with things....and emotions...and all that other strange stuff Puck could never fully understand. He quirked an eyebrow and watched the many little interactions of the crew. Listened in to conversations and smiled.::
::Such interesting creatures. specially the couples...odd little things they were.....he kept silent on deck and watched, doing nothing but waiting to hear of the plans Jack and Evelyn appeared to have formed:::
