Evelyn wandered through, closely behind Jack and Tobbs who seemed almost pinned to eachother and Eve snickered at this a bit. Her honeyed eyes passing around the jungles. She spotted a large spider here and there, and even had to step over a few carcassas rotting on the ground. As Eric slipped his hand to hers Evelyn's eyes looked to him and softened a bit. After a while of walking she noticed the terrain was at an incline now and she looked around. "We're climbin' now..." she muttered a bit.
As Eric told her not to stray far from her Evelyn lifted a curved brow. "What d'ye think ye can jus' order me 'round now, Eric?" she asked him nudging him a bit and then slipping away from him. "I mean, ta be perfectly honest, I was bloody fine without ye...I'm still breathin' aren' I?" she asked him. Then in an attempt to demonstrate her great survival skills, she rushed ahead of him, passing Jack and the rest towards what seemed like a clearing. There was a great rumble and Eve blinked while narrowing her eyes. "Oy! It sounds like there's a bloody waterfall over here!" Evelyn called as she began to walk backwards quickly, looking to the crew and waving an arm about.
Just as she was stepping back however, Evelyn tripped over a root that was portruding from the ground and fell backwards, flailing her arms out Eve managed to barely steady herself and took a step forward. She had been at the very edge of a tall cliff. Below, in a deep gorge, ran a rushing river and a waterfall fell just below what seemed to be a rickety bridge.
The bridge swung a bit in the relatively small breeze. She blinked at it and then peered over the side of the cliff. "Bloody 'ell...tha's a LONG way down..." Eve stated as she looked over the edge. The bridge was suspended between the two cliffs and the boards that made up the bridge, and the worn looking rope didn't make it look too sturdy.
On the other side ruins could be seen, not of a golden city though and she looked at it curiously. There was an odd feeling about the air and as Evelyn turned around to face the crew her face was a bit pale. Pirates, undead, anything fightable she could face, but THIS was nature itself. If she fell from THAT height, there was no saving herself.

*As soon as he saw her curve her brow and question him he cringed a little and knew what he was in for. As she bolted forward he smirked and shook his head. That woman was never going to make it to old age. He put his sword back through his belt, deciding now to get through the thickage with his hands. Moments later Evelyn called out to them, mentioning something about a waterfall.
He came out of the jungle into a lush opening, overwhelmed with the sounds of the waterfall and the deadly rushing waters below. His heart skipped a beat as Evelyn nearly toppled backwards, most certainly to her demise.* Bloody hell, Evy you're gonna be the death of me. *He called, trotting over to her and peering over the edge. He quickly took a step back however, considering he'd always had an issue with heights. He swallowed nervously.
He nodded at her when she mentioned it being a long way down, slightly glad to see that her face went pale as a result of the height of the bridge which looked more like a death trap than a bridge.* We don't have to cross that do we? *He asked slowly, still stepping carefully backwards away from the cliffs edge.*

Evelyn looked to Eric as he mentioned she'd be the death of him and smirked. As she turned away from him and looked down again however, the smirk faded in on a deeper level she almost believed this. She was a bad influence on him, Eve might indeed endager Eric with her actions and she sighed heavily. Now it wasn't just HERSELF she'd be looking out for anymore. It was him, and considering he followed her around like a lost puppy at times, she'd have to simply give in, and would have to hold back.
"Well if I am, then at least ye'll die a happy man I'm sure." Evelyn told Eric with a wink and then looked him over seeing he was growing quite nervous at the sight of the rickety bridge. Evelyn shrugged however. She knew they'd have to cross, it was inevitable really. She went to Eric's side then looked around at the crew. "Well, it doesn' look like this place is givin' us too much of a bloody option, is it?" She asked with a small laugh.
"Besides, I figure if I fall, I'll die upon impact really, at least it'll be painless." Evelyn told him teasingly as she made to step onto the old, worn, looking bridge. Evelyn stepped upon the first plank cautiously. "See? It's not all tha' bad mate." Evelyn grinned at him over her shoulder and grabbed hold of the rope sides. Just as she took another step however, the board gave in and she slipped, slipping through a bit and grasping on for dear life onto the rope handles.
"GAH!" She cried out a bit as she stared down at the rushing waters below and attempted to desperately pull herself back out of the whole she had fallen through.

*Eric stopped backing up once he felt he was at a safe distance from the cliffs edge and he smirked as Evelyn said he'd die a happy man. He probably would but he wasn't going to let her know that.* That depends on how I died. *He said, eyeing the rickety bridge again.
He muttered something beneath this breath as she confirmed the bridge would be there only option. For a single moment he pondered staying behind but the temptation of the city was too strong an urge. Somehow he would just have to force himself across, but at the moment that wasn't exactly happening. In fact now he couldn't even move his feet, it was as if they'd grown roots and planted themselves into the lush jungle grass.
When she said the death would be painless he raised a brow and said the first thing that sprang into his mind.* Yeah but what if you hit a rock and it doesn't really kill you, just mangles you to the point where you'll die eventually, just not right away. *He said, blinking at her. He shifted uncomfortably and crossed his arms.
He didn't watch her as she made her way onto the bridge as it made him uneasy. However the instant he heard her cry out he turned and bolted from his spot, springing onto the bridge and dropping to his knees as he clung hold of her arms for dear life.* Evelyn, don't struggle so much, just let me pull you up. I won't let you go. *He said, locking his brown eyes on her as he gave her a few good tugs until she was out of the hole. He tugged her back off the bridge and sighed in relief.* Damn bridge. You alright? *He asked looking her over as his heart pounded.*

Rhys scowled as the man stood up. He was pale, covered in sweat, and dirt. She had taken care of herself and her brother for years healing every injury and illness that came along. While she did not claim to be an expert she knew enough not to over extend one's self when hurt. Advancing on him, she started to scold the man, "Are ye out of yer bloody mind?" As usual when upset or angry, her words flickered back to her upbringing amongst theives. Placing gentle hands on his shoulders, she forced the man to sit, "Ye d' not! I repeat, d' not get up! 'll just make it bloody worse!"
With the man sitting down, once again, the theif knelt next to him. Her voice became calm and soothing even and she spoke to him reverting back to her normal dialect, "I'm going to lift your shirt up so I can get a better look, alright?" Without waiting for an answer she began to peel the shirt off of his skin. It stuck to him stubbornly due to the blood, and was careful to keep the smile on her face to comfort him and not let him see the aprehension that she felt. "My name is Rhys, mate," she murmured as she finally inspected his wound. It was filled with dirt from his time lying on the ground and she knew that if she didn't cleanse it would become infected quickly. She looked up at him with a bright smile on her face, "Stay here for a moment will you? I think there's a stream nearby so I'm going to go get some water to clean this with."
Standing Rhys began to weave her way through the trees. Her mind drifted to the man's pain, she did not know what to tell him about the crew. She planned to avoid that subject for as long as she could. Truth was she had no idea, in fact she had been abandoned as well, but she was used to it. Finding a gurgling stream she quickly filled a canteen full of water. She had swipped one at the camp the night before. Jogging back, she knelt next to the man once again.
She gently poured the water over his wound. One hand held the canteen steady, while the other probed his wound; gently washing the dirt out of his body. She sighed when that was done and handed the left over water up to the man, letting him take a drink.
This was the hard part, reaching around to the back of her shirt, she pulled it up slightly. There pinned into the hem was a small needle like lock pick. For her purposes it would work fine. The theif pulled the lock pick out and held it in her hand while she tore a thread off of the bottom of her shirt, unwraveling it slightly. When the thread was long enough, she broke it off. Tying a knot at the end, she spoke to the man, "Why don't you tell me about yourself? It will help keep your mind off of the pain. Tell me your name, how you joined Jack's crew. Anything really." She smiled at him encourgingly, before looping the thread around the lock pick.
She knelt ready to begin to her work, only waiting for the pirate to start talking.

Mark sat down as he was commanded. He looked at the woman that had found him. She seemed alright to him, at least she cared if he died or not. He winced as she pulled his dressings away from his wound. He was begginning to feel rather sick due to the loss of blood. A small stream of blood trickled from the wound. He looked at her with his ice blue eyes.
"The name is Mark mate....Mark Andrews....gah! That 'urts just a little bit."
He sat there as she left to get some water to clean his wound. The fun part would be stitching it. He had to stitch wounds like this before, but this one was deep and very painful. He was just gald that someone found him. He probably would have died if he had to go on to much longer by himself. When she returned she got to work.
"You want to know about me eh? Well lets see....My name is Mark. I joined the crew by Will Turner. He said that at the time I could use a vacation away from Port Royal. Which was very true at the time, but I never expected to come this close to death. But I suppose that is how it all goes. Life is good and then one day death just sneaks up behind you and nips you in the arse... or side in my case. When it comes to family all I have is my mother... back in Port Royal. Gah! Be gentle......any way..... my dad and brother were killed in an accident. I don't really like to talk about that. I became a pirate to support my mother and me. She doesn't know it though. Thats why I wear this blue bandana around my right wrist. It hides the P when I was branded a few years back. O course to add insult to injury I was left out here to die, though I am still pondering why. Am I that invisable?"
He rambeled on. In a flash the procedeure was complete. He stood up and winced a little.
"Where do you suppose they went mate?"
He asked looking around.

Evelyn's heart pounded but just as soon as her words left her lips she felt strong hands grasping her arms and Evelyn looked up at Eric. As he told her to stay still and he wouldn't let her go she looked up at him with wide eyes and managed to bark at him, "Would ye bloody SHUT UP an' jus' pull me up!?" Evelyn shouted as he then tugged her up and she fell onto him, safely on the ground and away from the cliff's edge.
She sighed heavily. She had fallen backwards onto him and looked out at the rickety bridge. Evelyn turned slowly and looked Eric over then embraced him tightly. "Bloody 'ell mate! It looks like yer good fer somethin' after all." Evelyn teased as she parted from him and gave a small wink and then grinned warmly, the wind tossing a few strands of her chocolate curls into her face. Eve's honeyed eyes were warm and she turned and stood slowly, looking the bridge over again and letting out a deep sigh. "Well, we 'ave no other choice really...i's either the Gold City er stayin' here..." Evelyn said rolling her eyes. "An' ALL of ye know what I would rather do." Evelyn told the crew and Eric as she nudged him and looked the bridge over again.
She was busy trying to find a way to cross it without putting their lives in danger all TOO much. She took out her flask of rum and took a small drought, wiped her mouth, and then put it away once again. "Well...maybe if we don' ALL go at the same time...less weight, ye know? AND less casualties..." Evelyn said with a grin and a small laugh at the crew.

::Jack had pretty much kept his nose in the map the entire time, talking little and paying attention to the others much less then what was normal for him when he was thinking...::
::and low and behold...a towering bridge...of there'd be a flimsy bridge in the middle fo a jungle...there always is the falling-to-bits bridge...always..has to be...::
::Jack stared at it long and hard....and blinked at the drop...of course the drop would be huge....a long drop...so long in fact that if on would fall they'd have enough time to scream, take a breath scream some more...soil themselves....and then wonder about why they soiled themselves...and then hit water....it wouldn't be fun.....::
::In fact all that was on either side of the cliffs on the way down were a few lone trees that had somehow grown from the rocky sides...a few vines....and a loooooong drop....::
::But Jack was not a legend for nothing.:: "Nothing ventured nothing gained...come on Will...we'll cross first..."
:;and he playfully nudged Will along the bridge, listening the creaking of the boards as they did....then a small popping sound...then a snap...::#nosmileys

Rhys sat back on her heels, once she finished stitching Mark up. She looked down for a moment in an attempt to find something to bind his wound with. She quickly repinned her lock pick to her shirt and grimanced slightly as she moved her arm. It snapped her back into awareness about her own bleeding arm. She didn't care, though. She deserved it for what she had done.
Blue fabric came off in a long strip with a loud rip making Mark jump. The strip came off of her shirt easily. She continued to rip long strips of fabric off, until her shirt barely covered anything, leaving her stomach bare. She looked the dirty clothes over and then looked to where Mark had been seated. Not listening to him at all, she stood up and marched over to him. "What de ye think ye are doin'? Gettin' up so soon and without my permission." She gently forced him to the ground again. "I never said I was done with ye," her dialect had reverted again, but she did not notice.
Inspecting the newly ripped cloth, she found it blood stained and covered in dirt. Sighing she looked down at Mark, "You are not to get up while I am gone. I do not care if a herd of... I don't know! a herd of monkeys come running through the woods at you. Do not move." She left him sitting there and made her way to the stream again. It would have been nice to be able to boil water, but she did not have the supplies. Giving up on that idea for now, she just rinsed the makeshift bandages in the stream.
Bandages in hand, she made her way back to her patient. She knelt next to him again, and soon enough she found herself tying still wet bandages around that man's waist.
Sitting back, she looked him over with her full attention. She inspected him for any other injuries and finally said, "If that's all we can get a move on, but we will take it slow, you have lost a lot of blood." She stood and offered him her hand, "You are probably one of my strongest patients yet." Her eyes drifted to the blue bandana on the man's wrist and she said, "Sometimes things just happen. You may have been lost out of sight and mind. Me they just got up and left me sitting on the ground." She grinned grimly at him, " Shall we go find out what happened?"

::Jack swore loudly, the cry echoing off the cliff faces...and the bridge snapped in two. Instinctivly his hands clawed for any surface they could to hold onto....they found a board from the bridge, and he winced as the end of it went swinging for the cliff.::
::Behind him he heard Will yelp, but no desending cry of shock. So he was still holding on below him. They hit the face of the cliff, still hanging to the remains of the bridge, and smashed into the rocks. Jack was holding onto the board with all his might....cursing swearng and shouting as he did so.::
::Finally a few seconds later he looked up and saw the crew staring down at them and holloring from a good forty feet upwards::
"Get a..." Jack began to shout. He heard Will below him, shouting something about "nothing ventured nothing gained." and cursing loudly. "Get the eunuch some help...he's going to..."
::But what exactly the eunuch was going to do was not discvered, because the bridge snapped again, and down they fell. Jack wasn't sure what exactlly splatting into a million bits would feel like but he didn't want to find out....but...::
::They hit a tree. Jack had turned in the air and saw in a fleeting second Will hit the branchs of a wispy little tree. Jack hit a split second later with a crack. When he looked up Will was sitting on the tree, looking distincting pale and horrified.::
::Jack chuckled nervously first, and then looked up again because he didn't want to look down. Well now the crew was a good seventy feet above them. Jack, thinking as quickly as he could, ripped a vine loose and tied it around his waist then tied it to the tree. So if they fell, they'd be connected to something. He motioned for Will to do the same...who did.::
::He added another vine and another....lashing them to various parts of the tree. Then he looked at Will:: "Well, until the crew can think of a way to get us out of this one....looks like we're stuck here....not so bad eh?"
::The tree lurched...Jack's eyes widened...Will mouthed something that sounded like "I'm going to kill you for this..." and the roots of the tree popped out of the side of the cliff. Apparently....a blacksmith and pirate weighed too much together for the tree::
::Will, Jack and the Tree fell....On the way down Jack had time to think about all th rum he'd never get to drink and all the sailin' he wouldn't be able to do....then they hit water:::
::Jack gasped as the tree bobbed to the surface, and suddenly everything was loud and roaring. They were in the rapids, but by some twisted miracle the tree was keeping them afloat......::
After a few minutes of screaming, shouting, swearing nad being generally thrown about in a most uncomfortable fashion Jack and Will made it to a calm river area. Wondering how they were still alive, Jack enhaled air and closed his eyes, thanking the tree for saving their lives...::
"Uh oh........." Will's voice came from behind Jack. The pirate frowned.
"Don't tell me. We're about to go over a huge waterfall?"
"Yes....yes we are..."
"Sharp rocks at the bottom?"
"With our luck, rocks, pirahnnas and a lot of cannibel natives...."
Jack was silent.....then:
"Drink up me hearties yo ho...."
::They tumbled over the waterfall, swearing loudly, Jack laughed like a crazied person halfway down then cursed the rest....::
::When Jack woke up he was lying downstream from the waterfall....on the river's edge.....Will was a few yards away.....apparently out cold, but Jack could see him breathing....::
::A few seconds later after having time to wish the crew would show up soon he fell into a sort of post shock sleep::

Post by Emma Hawkins/Rick MacKinnon on Sept 3, 2004 14:21:02 GMT -5
Emma wiped her brow with one of her sashes, then tied it back around her waist. She and Rick had successfully kept from being killed by cannibals, pirahnas,or any such nasty things, and now they seemed to be at the mercy of another foe:gravity. She took a sip of rum from the silver flask at her side to calm her nerves, which were anything but calm when she got a look at how far that drop was.
Still...I'm Emma Hawkins! No bloody bridge's gonna stand in me way!She stowed the flask back on her belt, and took a step towards the bridge....
Which snapped.Jack and Will disappeared from sight.Emma ran to the edge."JACK!"She smiled faintly as a tree broke his fall...but apparently the pirate and the eunuch were too much for the poor tree, which finally gave up its hold on the canyon walls and fell down into the river."God damn it!"She turned to the rest of the crew."We've got t'follow 'em!This cliff's got t'slope down sometime!"
Rick nodded."We can' abandon 'em,they were alive when they hit the water...C'mon!"Emma was already off, slicing through any branch foolish enough to get in her way as she raced in the direction of the river's flow.He followed in her wake, glancing for only a brief moment at the rest of the crew.He hadn't been with the crew a long time, but Jack was someone he felt he could trust, and he knew Will by reputation. He was a good man,and not someone he felt he could let die if he could help it.
Suddenly,he had to stop in his track to keep from bowling into Emma. She was standing at the edge of the forest, which seemed to cut off abruptly. He heard one of her more choice expressions of dismay, and realized a moment later why.
The forest cut off so suddenly because the land did.
Damn, damn, damn, damn,DAMN!Emma's heart sank as her mind calculated the odds of surviving a fall like that...If they had any sense, they would just keep going...the City of Gold....that mattered more than any human life, right? She was a bloody pirate...
And he was her captain.
"Rick,'elp me find some vines...I'm goin' down there."

Avery watched as the crew on watch right now began to work on setting the longboats into the water. The thief watched a small group of the crew standing off talking, before they seperated to find their gear. His eyes drifted back out towards the land. It was wild, wild as he had never seen anything. Tortuga had been wild, yes, but in a different way and no where near as wild as this place. Trees leaped towards the sky, while birds flew around calling out to the sun. Monkeys jumped from tree to tree going about their daily lives.
He turned away from the land and made his way below decks to his bunk. He quickly slipped inside his cabin that he shared with two other crew members. Two of them were sitting on their bunks playing a card game. They had come down during the commotion on deck to gain some peace and quiet. They did not even look up when he entered, intent to make sure that the other did not cheat.
"We've reached the Amehicas, mates," he said softly. They nodded grins coming to their faces as they heard his accent. Anytime anyone questioned him about his strange accent, he had shrugged it off and told them that some day there would be a whole area of people that talked like him. Grinning slightly, he picked up his blanket, canteen, and a small pack. He quickly shoved them inside and head out of the cabin again, leaving his bunkmates to ready themselves. He slipped into the kitchen and gathered food for himself.
Avery, sometimes know as Ry, stepped out onto the deck again. The grin on his face had faded long ago and he was back to his normal self. He was ready to go.

Jessi continued to look around her excitedly. She loved to travel, but she didn't know anybody who had been to the Americas! She shivered with excitement, and mindlessly starting humming a Italian song...
Vittoria, vittoria! Vittoria, vittoria, mio core Non la grima piu, no la grima piu...
Suddenly she heard a collective gasp from the crew and looked up, seeing Emma running towards the bridge and Jack and Will nowhere in site. She hesistated for a half a second and then runs to the edge, looking over just as the pair fall with the tree into the water. Emma was the first to act, running to find a place where the crew could climb down the cliff. Rick followed, and Jessi wasn't far behind. She could sense the rest of the crew behind her, as well. She saw Rick coming to a stop and started to slow down. When she saw the waterfall, though, she stopped so quickly that her upper body swayed with inertia. Emma shouts to Rick to get vines for climbing down, and Jessi looks around at the rest of crew. "Something's wrong. Somebody's missing. And it's not Jack or Will." A couple of people turned around and looked at her. "Where are Ryhs and Mark?"

Roux had watched Jack and Will fall with horror, called out once:
"NO!" as if calling out that word it would make it untrue. Then they hit a tree. But the tree didn't like that and fell out of the cliff. and down they went.
"JACK?! WILL?!" He cried and hurried after Emma and Rick. At once he began hacking at vines to help make a rope to crawl down after their captain and his partner in crime. "They're still alive...they're still alive...." Roux whispered and got ready to go down after them.
