Here is my little fan fiction mates...the story behind Cate...This is stuff from the movie...the site...and the RPG's so if it confuses you...I dont blame you.
Chapter 1 Cate May Tompson sat in the small seamstress shop at the corner of folks road. Her last name was spelled without an H because when her Grandfather first signed his name, that’s how he spelled it. So that’s the name the family went by. However Cate didn’t have a family, well not really. She worked with the seamstress sewing dresses for fine ladies, with the hope that someday she would also be one. She put finished the hem on the skirt she was making and broke the thread from it. She held it up and walked to the mirror holding it in front of her. It was her finest work yet and she couldn’t wait to see her mistress face when she saw it. She also hoped she would be allowed to be present when the governor’s wife came to pick it up. She twirled in front of the looking glass allowing the beautiful material to cover her own plain brown low necked dress. “Enjoying ourselves are we?” Came a voice from behind. Cate turned and saw that it was her mistress Mrs. Phillips. She blushed and quickly put the dress down, smoothing the wrinkles as she did so. Mrs. Phillips came over to inspect her work. “Very good young lady, the governors wife will be pleased with this dress I am sure.” She turned to the expectant small sixteen year old and fondly brushed the brown locks aside that kept falling in her face. “Well my dear since you have done such a good job and this being only your third dress to do by yourself you may have the rest of the day off. No doubt that son of mine has some scheme for you two to accomplish.” And she smiled down at her. Again Cate blushed.
“Actually Ma’am I was hoping I might be able to stay and see the governor’s wife when she comes to retrieve her dress.”
“Oh, I’m sorry my dear but she is not coming here. I am to deliver it to her house.” Seeing the crestfallen girls face fall she smiled and lifted up Cate’s chin. “I was going to deliver it myself and take along a manservant, but I suppose you may go instead. You may take one of the servants or Josh might go along with you. He has no work to do today, as his father is out of town.” Cate brightened immediately.
“I love to do that Mrs. Phillips! If you are sure it is quite alright?” She asked hurriedly. The lady nodded and Cate bounded to go get her bonnet. Mrs. Philips shook her head and began to pack the dress into a box. Soon all was ready. And Cate carefully took the box and curtsied to her mistress, “Thank you ever so much!” she called as she went out the door as if stepping on eggshells. Normally when Cate was outside she tended to race around like a maniac even though by all accounts she was a woman. Soon she saw Josh leaning on the post of a house not too far away.

“Hey Cate what took you so long? You called out the window half and hour ago that you were almost finished.” Not answering the question Cate slipped her hand into the seventeen year olds elbow carefully carrying the box in her other arm.
“Come on! Your mother has given us permission to go to the governors house to deliver this dress. You shall finally see the great hall with its display of weapons!” Immediately Josh took up the form of a gentleman and carefully took the box from Cate.
“We can’t go up to the governors gate with you carrying the box. It’s not proper.” He explained. Cate nodded her head realizing it was so. She had only come to Port Royal a few months ago, and she still had so much to learn about civilized living.
“Alright now let’s go.” She urged. The two went as quickly as they could till they came up to the gate of the governors great house. Josh told the guards their errand and opened the box to prove it. The two guards opened the gate and let them pass. But Cate noticed that they kept looking at her as if she was from another planet. “It must be my looks.” She thought. Josh had always said that she was pretty to be an apprentice to a seamstress, not that he minded really. She always laughed when he said that and gave a small chuckle now.
“What’s so funny?” He asked.
“Oh nothing.” She said placing a hand over her mouth to compose herself. Soon they were up to the front door. Josh knocked and they were soon admitted. Then she came down the stairs, the governors wife. She was a young thing but then the governor himself was young. She was also very beautiful. Cate quickly pulled herself together and curtsied. Joshua bowed likewise. The Cate rose and taking the bow from Josh set it on a small table nearby and opened it. A maid who had come down with the governor’s wife took the dress from the box and handed it to her.
“Oh my dear” she said to Cate “It is simply divine! Tell your mistress that I will pay her handsomely for such a fine piece of work.” Cate was about to overlook the fact the she herself had made the dress, when Josh blurted out
“Oh but Ma’am, my mother didn’t make this dress, Cate did it herself!” Cate had the bad luck to blush when ever she or her work was mentioned.
“Did you indeed young lady?” Cate curtsied
“Yes Ma’am I did make it.” Just then the butler opened the door again to reveal the governor himself! He had just got back from him daily afternoon ride.
“Well what’s all this?” He asked allowing a servant to take his coat and going over to his wife.
“Well William, this young man and lady have come to deliver my new dress.” She held it up for him to see. He kissed her

“You will look stunning in that Elizabeth. So what shall I pay the seamstress this time?”
“Actually I think we should pay some of the money directly to this young lady here. She made the dress herself.”
“Did she really?” he asked and turned to Cate, who again blushed nodded and curtsied. “Well then I shall go over to the seamstress myself tomorrow and talk about engaging this young lady to make all of your clothes.” Cate looked up with surprise written all over her face. “Such work cannot go unnoticed. What is your name child?” He asked Cate.
“Cate May Tompson, Sir.” Her voice quavered a little and she felt she needed to sit down, but she got a hold of her self and quickly said “I am very grateful to you sir, but my mistress expects me back at the shop, and I have already been away a long time.”
The Governor seemed a bit startled at Cate’s name, but he said “You may go now of course; we would not want you to get on bad terms with Mrs. Philips now would we?” Cate shook her head and with a last curtsey and a bow from Josh the two departed. Once outside the gates of the grand house Cate pulled Josh into and ally and let out a loud whoop.
“I can’t believe it! I might even go to live with them, and then I will have my chance to be a fine lady!” And she began to dance in little circles. Josh shook his head at the display that she was putting on.
“If you ever want to be a lady you are going to have acting like a poor boy.” Cate stopped jumping and smoothed her dress. She knew Josh was right; she just couldn’t help herself sometimes. The two left the ally and began the walk back home. They didn’t see the little ragged boy who was following them.
Later that day the boy ran up to one of the guards in front of the governor’s house.
“I trailed them all the way to Folks street gov, and they went in at a little sewing shop on the corner.” He said a bit breathless. “Now where’s my shilling?” he demanded. The guard threw him a coin, and then turned to talk together with the other guard who was much younger than himself.
“Alright that’s done. Now I need you to go get a few good men and this evening go and get that girl.”
“What exactly are we doing this?” The younger guard asked.
“Because I swear that girl has the same face that was posted on those reward posters a few years back. Ya know, Saber? They got rid of the posters because no one could catch her.”
“Oh I see, and now she’s come back when everything’s all quiet and now well get her.”
“You hit the nail on the head young man. Now you go run and tell a higher officer. I’ll stay here and keep watch as usual.” The young man went off proud that he was entrusted with such a thing, and the older guard stood in front of the gate waiting till he should return.

Later that day Cate retreated to her room, in the attic of the small house that stood not far away from the shop, and locking the door, she went over to her bed. Pulling out a trunk from beneath the frame, she took a key on a string from her breast and kissed it. She unlocked the trunk and opened it. Inside lay a pair of very dark blue pants, a long ago white shirt, a brown vest and a blue silk head scarf. Also there were a few knives and some jewelry and feathers. Some of the only finery her mother ever had. She took out the blue silk and stroked it.
“You said that one day you would come back. When will that be mother? Will you come back when I am fully grown and a lady? I may have forgotten you by then dear mother. I am even now forgetting what you look like.” She said softly to herself. Then she remembered what her mother had said six years ago when she had left Cate by her self.
“If you ever forget what I look like, and you wish to remember again, take my scarf and wrap it around your head. Then if there be water or a looking glass near by look. And you will see me. For never before have I seen a copy of someone, as you are of me.” Cate took off her mob cap and replaced it with the blue silk then standing up she looked at her self in the small mirror that her mistress had given her as a present. She was startled to find that she did look like her mother; she was also startled to find that she herself looked as much a pirate as her mother had. Quickly she took the scarf off.
“Never,” She said aloud “Never will I follow the path that my mother, father, whoever he may be, and my grandfather took. Both my father and Grandfather died going down that path. And my mother may even now be dead. I will be honest and a good woman.” She then realized she was raising her voice with every word, and now she was almost shouting at the mirror. She fell down on the bed and felt as though she would weep. “Saber, Oh my mother. Will I even now as I am resolute to not do so, travel the path you once trod?” Then weep she did. She could not help it. She knew pirate was in her blood as well as adventure. Every day she felt herself while, yearning to be a lady, drawn to the sea and to a wild life. Could she escape even now? Or would someday fate fling her to the life she wished not to have. Just then she heard noises downstairs. A voice said.
“Pardon me Ma’am but we have orders to search this house. You might be harboring pirates, without your knowledge or consent.” The Cate heard another voice one that she knew well, as her mistress.
“Please by all means, I am quite sure no one is in this house but the servants, apprentices, and the family. But you are free to look as long as your men do not wreck anything.”
“To be sure Ma’am we will do our best so that you will not even know we are here.” Then Cate heard footsteps pounding up the attic stairs. Of course they would search the places that the family wouldn’t normally go. As quickly as she could she put the scarf back in the chest and hid the key in her dress front. Then in one swift movement she slid the chest under the bed, unlocked the door and picked up the dress that she was patching for herself. Just then a knock sounded at the door.
“Who is it?” Cate called trying to keep her voice still; she had just remembered that she had forgotten to lock the chest. “Please come in.” A sailor entered the room.

“Pardon me miss, but the lady of the house has said that we may search for…” then he got a good look at Cate. “Oh bloomin’ heck, you stand up right now missy just stand up right there” and pointing his gun at Cate motioned to a spot near the open window. Cate Stood and biting her lip stood near the window. “Captain come her’ I found her!” He called excitedly down the stairs still keeping his eyes and gun on Cate. The girl chanced a glance out the window and sighed with relief then she turned back into the room. An officer had come into the room and she bobbed a quick curtsy. The officer came over and stood a few feet in front of her. He pulled out a piece of paper from his coat and looked at it matching it up to Cate’s face.
“Aye I agree they look the same but this one is too young to be the infamous Sarah K. Tompson.” Cate gasped when she realized that they thought she was her own mother. “Still we should search the room.” And at once two sailors began to go through Cate’s large chest that held her clothes and they pulled back her sheets. Then one of them got the bright idea to look under the bed. Cate nervously looked over the officers shoulder. The man opened the trunk.
“Captain, I think we just hit a jack pot!” He said as he pulled out a silver pistol and a ruby hilted knife. “Only Saber carried these types of things.” The Captain bent down to look at the things in the chest.
“Well this is enough. You may not be Sarah, or Saber, as she liked to be called, but you are most definitely a relative. How did you get these things?” He was speaking to the girl who he supposed stood right behind him. But as he turned so as to get an answer from the girl, she wasn’t there. He stared at the space behind him realizing that she couldn’t have gotten out the door. Quickly he jumped to the window and looked out. Sitting right below the window was a cart of straw and hay, obviously in town to make a delivery. Signs of someone landing and than sliding down the side were very visible. He turned back to the dumbfounded sailors. “Well she got away! Go and get her! How far could a girl in skirts get anyway?” He yelled after them as they scurried down the stairs and ran past the confused family. The others who were also searching the house joined them as they ran outside and got their bearings as to where the cart was. Then they split going down both sides of the street as fast as they could, looking for Cate. The Captain came down the stairs and without a word to the Phillips family dashed outside in the direction of the fort.
Mrs. Phillips sat down.
“Mercy me! What could have possible happened to get them riled so?” Josh looked at his mother and then he looked to his younger brother who was enjoying the whole thing immensely.
“I don’t know mother, but I’m going up to Cate’s room to see if she is alright.” Just then Cate burst in the door and fled upstairs trailing straw as she went. Josh followed her and Mrs. Phillips got up and went to her room saying she needed to lie down after all the excitement. By the time Josh got to the door of Cate’s room it was shut and locked.
“Cate what is going on?” He called through the door trying to open it. “Please tell me? You were in your room when the soldiers came and now you’re rushing around. Please Cate!” And he heaved his shoulder against the door. He did it again and again. Finally and small wood piece that held the door locked gave way and her crashed into the room. What he saw startled him so much, that he gave out a yelp as he lay on the floor looking up. What he saw was a beautiful young girl wearing dark blue pants, a once white shirt, a light brown vest, and a blue silk scarf encircled her head. A thick leather belt was around her waist and stuck into it was a knife and a silver pistol. This girl, this pirate he realized was Cate. She reached her hand out and helped him up. “Its time you knew the truth Josh. I’m a pirate or at least I would have been if I hadn’t found my way here. Anyway, all of my relatives are pirates. My dead father was a pirate, and my mother is a pirate.”
“Your mother…” He began. Then it hit him. “No…Cate please tell me your mother isn’t Saber Tompson.” Cate shook her head.
“She is my mother.” Josh almost collapsed. Cate grabbed him and looked him in the face.
“I knew this was going to happen and I avoided it long as possible. But I must go fulfill my destiny, if you want to put it nicely.” She gave him a quick kiss on the lips, and dashed out the door. Then Josh did collapse, because the world he knew had just fallen apart.

Chapter 2
Cate ran through the streets dodging people, baskets, carts, barrels, and animals. When she was small she had been fast enough to out run most of the boys back in Dantas, the port where she had lived before her mother left her on her own. She relied on all that speed now, and the fact the she was not hampered by long skirts as she had been as a child. She narrowly missed being hit by a cart and got turned around in a side street, before again putting all her energy into getting away. Many were chasing her now, and she had no where to go, no where to hide. She had no clear idea of what to do except to get out of the port, weather to escape by boat or to leave the town and go into the interior of the island she knew not, but either way would work. As she ducked into an ally she decided to try a boat first. After all if she could get a boat, she might be able to find her mother. She chanced a look behind her that proved fatal. As she rejoiced over the fact that she could no longer see her pursuers she ran right into a wall. The ally she had slipped into was a dead end, camouflaged by the darkness between the buildings. Cate fell to the ground and held a hand to her head which hurt horribly. She tried to get up but found herself dizzy and confused on which way to go. She lay down again trying to collect herself, when she heard footsteps. She groaned and again tried to get up but never made it past a sitting position before strong hands gripped her and pulled her to her feet. These same hands pulled Cate’s behind her and began tying them together with thick rope. She looked up and shook her head to clear her blurred eyes. Standing before her was the same Captain who had ordered his men to search her room. She gave a weak smile and then winced as the rope grew tight on her hands and the sailor who had tied her gripped her shoulder.
“Well Cate Tompson, daughter of Sarah K. Tompson I suggest you give us no trouble.” For some reason Cate wanted to talk back. Something she had never really done before.
“Oh I won’t give you any trouble.” She said in a mocking tone. “Seeing as you’ve taken my weapons, tied my hands behind my back and have about four men standing here with their guns trained on me. I won’t give you any trouble at all.” The Captain looked around and seemed embarrassed. “A bit much for one small girl eh Captain?” She said flashing a grin at him.
“Never mind her.” He said flustered. “Take her to the fort. There should be a cell prepared for her there.”
“Thank ye kindly.” She said fluttering her long eyelashes at the Captain as she was propelled down the ally into the main street. She looked about in the crowed that had gathered and saw a forlorn Joshua. His face showed that he thought she had betrayed him by never telling him about her true past. She gave him a look that told him to stay out of the whole thing. Then she was pushed past him, and lost him from sight.

When they reached the fort, Cate was glad to get away from the staring eyes of the children and young people who had followed the sailors. Some of them she had known and was even friends with.
“Well they all know the truth now. It was bound to happen sooner or later.” She mumbled to herself and she was shoved down a flight of stairs. She was pushed past some cells with prisoners in them and ignored the whistles and cat calls from the uncouth men. She was placed in an empty cell because she was a girl. As soon as she was in they reached through the bars and removed the ropes from her hands. She turned and spit on the Captain who was watching the whole thing with satisfaction. “Hope your satisfied Sir. You don’t even have a real right to put me in here.”
“Oh actually I do, several in fact. One you had in your possession a well known pirates belongings. Two you evaded questioning. Three you resisted arrest. Four you have insulted an officer in the Kings Royal Navy. Five you are the offspring of a pirate, illegitimate offspring most likely.” Cate sneered at him.
“That’s all you know.”
“I know more about Saber than you do girl. To my knowledge she never married.” Cate turned her back on the man and refused to listen or talk. After a few minutes the man sighed.
“Have it your way Cate. But I doubt you’ll get your way out of here by refusing to talk.” And with that he started to leave, but not before telling a guard to leave her weapons on a ledge that would be out of reach from the cells and from the ground. Cate you see was only five foot three, even shorter then her mother. She turned slightly, saw what they were doing, and growled in her throat.
As soon as the Captain and the guard left the men in the next cell started to make even more foul comments. Some of them even said things that Cate had never heard before and she a bit shocked. She moved back into the cell where there were stone walls instead of just grating and positioned her self so that she could not be seen from the cell to her right. There was no cell on her left and it was just a solid stone wall. As soon as she was out of sight she sat down and let silent tears flow. She cursed herself for having gone back to the Phillips and putting on her mother’s things. She cursed her mother for not ever really being there for her. She stopped short of cursing the navy as that would add another black mark to growing record. She realized she didn’t care anymore and cursed the navy as well. Cate found herself slipping into a troubled sleep from sheer exhaustion. She lay down and found comfort in sleep that no one else could give.

“Miss Tompson? Miss Tompson…” Cate thought she was still dreaming and so didn’t open her eyes. “Cate” She opened her eyes at the soft sound of her first name. She couldn’t see anything and then she realized that the cell was almost in pitch darkness. She had seen earlier that there was only one torch in the whole place and it was near the steps which was at the other side of the cells. When her eyes grew accustomed to the light she saw what she least wanted to see. A small guard standing about five ft five inches stood at the door of her cell.
“What do you want?” She sitting up but not bothering to stand.
“I brought you some food.” He said, and instead of sliding it through the bars he opened the door. Cate never saw how he did it as he didn’t have any keys. Still not wanting to sound grateful she mumbled,
“In the middle of the night?”
“They wont let you have food at all, so be grateful I took this chance for you dear.” Cate distinctly heard the voice soften on the word dear. She moved herself further back in the cell as the guard came in with a tray. He set it on the ground and kneeled down next to Cate. Taking of his hat and wig he looked right into Cate face and took it in both hands. “Can it really be ye?” A soft woman’s voice with a distinct rough accent said to Cate. The girl now saw she was looking at a woman. Of about thirty and five years. She started to cry out when the woman placed a hand over her mouth. “Aye it be you. Never was there a copy such as you. Come if ye don’t want ta be caught and mayhap hung I suggest you come with me.” Cate gripped the outstretched hand and stood up next to the other woman.
“Saber?” Cate breathed. A quick nod and then they were rushing down the row of cells and up the stairs. A quick blow from Saber laid out the guard at the top, and then they went out into the night. As they ran side by side out of the fort and to the docks Cate glanced at the woman running beside her. They were going stride for stride, practically hitting the ground and leaving it at the same time. Cate knew that Saber was much older than herself but she seemed to not even be going all out. Cate herself was starting to breathe hard by the time they reached the right wharf.
“Hoist anchor, set the sails, and pull away!” Cate heard Saber yell as they pounded down the wooden dock. The ship actually pulled away before they got to the gangplank. Then Cate realized there never had been a gangplank. Saber leapt out into the open leaving the dock sailing over water. Cate saw her grab a rope and next minute Cate herself flew off the end of the dock. Her mother grabbed her arm and made her grab the rope. The Cate felt herself being hoisted high into the air over the ship. For a second she thought she was going to hit the side as they went up but the timing was perfect. Both of them landed unharmed on deck and Saber was laughing. “Welcome my daughter to the Blade Runner.” Cate looked around as she sat on the wooden deck and saw only four other people all of them men. She took Saber’s hand and pulled herself up. The next thing Saber knew was that she was laying flat on her on the deck of her own ship with an exact copy of her younger days standing over her. Saber rubbed her bruised chin. “Yep yore just like me, but what in the blue blazes was that fo’?” She yelled as she jumped to her feet and looked at Cate.

“Everything…mom.” Cate said sneering. “You gave birth to me and then three years later left me. Four years after that you showed up again and stayed with me for another three years. Then you left and now it’s been six years and you come back. Yore probably wonderin’ why I was in jail, I’ll tell you why. Because of you!” Cate almost shrieked. Saber looked over her shoulder at the young man that had come up behind her. She grinned at him and told him with her eyes to not do anything. Cate kept going letting out sixteen years of frustration. Without realizing it she was saying it all with an uncouth pirate’s accent. Something she had strained to overcome while in Port Royal. Saber rubbed her chin again.
“Cate I understand why ya are so upset, but what could I do? Did ye expect me ta stay with ye and be caught and hung for my crimes?” At this point she nodded to the men who were standing around. Without a word they left and tended to the ship. Saber herded Cate to the main cabin and once they were inside she shut the door. “Cate please, ye have ta understand now. I did not choose this life; God knows I would have liked to raise a proper family in Dantes or Port Royal or even in Tortuga if I had ta. But Cate, thing get thrown yore way whether you want them ta or not.” She looked at her daughters back and saw she was getting nowhere. “I suppose ye won’t mind if I get out of this hateful outfit?” She asked not really expecting an answer. She got none. Saber sighed and went into small side room that was where she slept. While she was gone Cate took in her surroundings. She saw a very finely furnished room complete with a dinning table and a cabinet full of sliver and china.
“Stole it most likely.” She scoffed as she looked it over. “I don’t care what she says. She had a choice. No matter what happened, she had a choice somewhere in her life to leave this…this…”
“Just like ya had a choice today?” Came Saber’s voice. Cate stopped and turned around and gasped. If she had met her mother in the street just then she would have greeted her kindly and treated her with utmost respect. Saber had on a beautiful blue low necked gown, with lace trim. A delicate pattern tripped across the fabric. And Sabers hair had been let down in soft curls. “Surprised are ya not?” She said a grin coming over her face. “I didn’t steal it, I made it. Where do ya think ya git it girl? Do ya think it’s just from hard work? It’s a God given talent, girl, to make beautiful things. I didn’t steal the silver either. I bought it fair and square. Oh yes a pirate can be rather honest if she feels like it.” Saber looked Cate up and down. “I expect you want to change out of those pirate clothes.” She said a bit sarcastically. Cate hadn’t realized till then how comfortable she felt in pants and a shirt, but not to let her mother think she liked any of this, she quickly agreed. “Go inta my little room. You should find a green dress in there, and as I wore it a few years ago it should fit you.” Cate did as she was told and found a simple but modest dress. Putting it on she found that walking around in skirts was not as pleasant as she used to think it was. She came out of the room, and found Saber sitting at the dinning table. Cate sat down as well.
“Saber,” She began, she wasn’t about to call her mother and really mean it yet. “I want to understand. Please tell me the whole story.” Saber sighed.

“I guess you have a right ta know yore history.” And so Saber began from her own earliest memories up to the present day. Cate heard about how Saber had been forced into a life of piracy. She heard how Saber’s captain had been marooned when Saber herself was very small. She heard how she escaped from cursed pirates, and many years later met up with her captain again. Saber told the story how she herself became cursed to save her own life and how she had searched for her sister, Cate’s aunt. Saber told of Cate’s birth and how she had to hide to avoid being hung by the Navy. Cate heard about her childhood. Something she didn’t remember to well, and she heard what happened to Saber when she had left her daughter alone. “After I left you, I was caught by the East India Trading company.” And she showed her daughter the brand to prove it. “I got away, but when I finally was able to get a ship and a small crew, you had left Dantes.” She shook her head. “I had no idea where to find you. I’ve been looking for ages; you could have been decent enough to leave a note at least.” When I finally found out you had traveled to Port Royal I thought I would never see you again. I knew I couldn’t just come right there. I would have been caught and hung, and most likely they would have found ya out and done something ta ya too. Fortunately they did something ta you before they could get me.” Cate jumped up form the table.
“And do you want ta know why they did something ta me? Because they found that stupid chest of yours, the one where you left to me with all your old things in it.”
“You mean like this?” And to Cate amazement a ruby hilted knife was in Saber’s hand.
“How did, I mean…I”
“Don’t worry yore pretty little head about it. I got it off the shelf before I got you out. I also got this.” And she held up the silver pistol. “Cate I told ya that ya could use anything in that chest except this. Why did you take it? It could have been lost forever.”
“I forgot alright?” Cate snapped. “Besides it’s not like its priceless or anything. You could always steal another one.” Cate voice dripped with sarcasm and scorn.
“Now you’ve gone too far Cate. I didn’t steal this pistol. Well actually I did, but I gave it back, and then it was given to me as a present. This is very dear to me, and it belonged to a dear friend. Well he was an enemy at first, but then… Oh I don’t know it all changed.” Saber put the pistol on the table and looked out the glass window. Cate thought she saw tears glisten on her mother’s cheeks.
“I…I’m sorry. I didn’t know, but if it’s so special, why did you leave it with me?” Saber answered without turning. “Because If I was caught with that, even in disguise I would have been hung.” She stood up walk to the large rear window and looked at the stars that seemed to float just above the water. She turned to her daughter who was staring at her with a very puzzled look on her face. Saner smiled a weak smile and glanced at the pistol. “That belonged to Barbossa.” And suddenly many different things became clear for Cate.
“Mother,” she asked “Who was my father?” Saber looked at her and smiled.
And that is it for now. I'll post the third chapter when I have compleated it. Hope you mates like it!

*pokes everyone* What no comments on my bad writing and no gasps and twiching from the hecklers? Well here is the third chapter anyway...
Chapter 3
“Yore father child?” Saber smiled again. “I could guess, but I don’t really know.” Cate looked at her mother with open mouthed horror. “Shocking isn’t it. But when yore a young girl pirate all alone…” She didn’t finish the sentence, but she didn’t need to. Cate got the gist. Shakily Cate sat down. She had always told herself that her father was dead, but…he could be alive. What really hurt her was that her mother didn’t even know. “Mother…how, how could you…Oh.” Cate put her face in her hands. She had hoped that the Captain in Port Royal had been wrong, but there was no chance of that now. Saber sighed and coming over to her daughter she patted her on the shoulder, Cate shrugged her off. “Cate, I need to tell you something. I know you are listening, you don’t have to like it, and you don’t have to look at me, but you need to face the facts.” Cate noticed that all trace of a pirate’s accent had disappeared from Saber’s lips. “You are going to have to get used to being with pirates, and being a pirate.” Cate leapt to her feet knocking over her chair. “Never! I will never become like you! I want to go back to Part Royal! Turn this ship around Saber and take me home.” Cate eyes hardened and flashed in such a way that Saber was even surer who her daughter’s father was. “I can’t do that Cate. Unless you would like to see your mother and her crew hung.” “I can’t think of anything I would like better.” Cate lashed out, not thinking about what she was saying. Saber’s lips went white as she pressed them together. “There’s the little mater of your self as well. Do you really think, after breaking out of jail, and sailing away with known pirates, that the navy will allow you to go back to a normal life?! They’ll hang you too!” Cate was in hysterics now and she sat down again crying. “I don’t care,” She sobbed. “I wish I could die instead of living with the shame…” “I could arrange that real nicely, so don’t get any foolish ideas into your head. I didn’t tell you how your Grandfather really died.” Cate looked up with tear streaming down her cheeks. “I killed him Cate, and while I’m not a cold blooded murderer, I will kill anyone in a fair fight.” Saber looked out the window, her face hard as stone. “And then there’s my sister to reckon with, your aunt. She would kill anyone fair fight or no. I wouldn’t cross me or her, even if you are family.” With those last words she jerked her head and looked Cate right in the eye. Cate had stopped crying and she stared at her mother terror written on her face. “You come from a line of killers, girl. Learn to square with it now, or it will catch up with you in the end.” With those words Saber walked across the room to the small room and slammed the door. Cate just fell to the floor and wept.

Saber leaned against the door and sighed. “I was hopin’ I wouldn’t have ta break it ta ‘er like that, but what’s done is done.” Saber picked up the old clothes sitting on the bed. “Oh for those days,” She murmured “I was care free then.” She shook her head and stored the clothes in a trunk that sat open near by. Then changing out of her blue dress she put on a pair of black pants a loose white shirt and a brown vest. She pulled the blue silk out again and put it on her head. She picked a wide brimmed black hat off of a shelf and put it on her head. She slipped out of the small room past her daughter and went up on deck. She went directly to the wheel and relived her mate who stood holding the wheel on course. “Put a rope on it Dan.” The young man put a rope on the wheel that held it to its present course. “’Ow did she take it?” “Not as well as I hoped. It seems she enjoyed living in Port Royal, and wants to go back. But if I took her back not only would my crew be hanged but she would too.” Saber sighed. “I can’t do that Dan. I can’t send my friends and my daughter to their deaths.” “Of course ya can’t. Ye may have killed a few in yore day, but I know ye wouldn’t try killin’ someone ya cared for.” “In my day? Dan yore makin’ me sound old! I can’t be over thirty three years of age, even though I have a sixteen year old daughter.” Dan smiled and shrugged. “Pardon me Captain but ya have ta admit yore quite a bit older than me.” “And right now I have no inclination as ta why I took you on as first mate.” “Perhaps because I saved yore life?” “Oh that’s right.” Saber gave a mock sigh. “Life is so unfair.” She laughed and gave the eighteen year old a playful smack. “Now stop all this. I need to go look at the charts and gets some shut eye.” This time she really sighed “I also need to get Cate into bed without her trying to kill me.” Saber said goodnight to Dan and then went back to the main cabin. Cate had cried herself to sleep on the floor, and Saber didn’t know how to move her without making everything start up again. Saber sighed and sat at a small desk. She lit a candle and then pulled out a map. From what she knew of the sea they were a comfortable distance from Port Royal and Saber knew that they were headed right for Tortuga. She smiled, thinking about how shocked her sister would be when she found out about Cate. “Shame I never told her. We’ll she’ll get over it, lets just hope Cate gets over it.” She looked at the girl lying on the floor and shook her head. “Goodnight Cate.” She said blowing out the candle and then blowing out the lantern. She made her way to her bunk room and lay down on the bed. Saber put her hands behind her head and thought about the past. She tried to remember what had occurred when she was just Cate’s age. She thought about it and then tried to forget. “Ah Barbossa, wouldn’t ye be surprised if ye knew.” Then she fell into a troubled sleep.

Cate sat up as soon as she could no longer hear noises from the small room. She fumbled about in the dark and wished she had a candle. She soon located the one on the desk and after a few more minutes searching found a match. Striking it she lit the candle and holding it up looked about. She saw exactly what she wanted. There on the table lay the jeweled knife. The pistol was nowhere to be seen but Cate had expected that. She quietly went to the table and picked up the dagger. She unsheathed it and looked at the blade. She almost dropped it again but then gripped it even tighter. She was determined and resolute to do what ever it took to get back to Port Royal. She quietly opened the door to the bunk room and saw her mother lying on the bed asleep. Cate slipped inside and put the candle on the foot of the bunk. Then she took a deep breath and gripping the front of Saber’s shirt shook the woman. Saber awoke instantly and was about to jump up when she saw her own knife hovering above her chest. She looked up at Cate and raised a sarcastic eyebrow. “And what might ye think ye be doin’?” she asked. “Saber, I don’t want to kill you, but I will if you don’t turn this ship around and go right back to Port Royal.” “Do ye really think ye have the guts ta kill the one who birthed you?” “I…I…I do.” “Yes, and I’m one of the undead.” Saber said before raising her arm up faster than you would think someone her age could and knocked the knife from Cate’s hand. A well placed kick sent the girl slamming into the door, closing it. Cate lay there half winded and stunned then she found the knife at her neck. “No matter how hard you try to avoid it girl, you are a pirate. Here’s proof. You just tried to pull a mutiny, and even I as Captain can’t save you from the judgment of the crew. Oh yes they have to know about this…” Saber began when pounding was heard on the door. “Saber? Saber! Wot’s the racket? Are ye alright?” A voice said. “Fine Dan.” Saber called and hauled Cate away from the door. The door opened and the first mate stood looking in at the door. Peter, one of the other crew, stood just behind him. They stared with confusion at Saber who was holding a knife to Cate’s neck. “This whelp thought she could pull a mutiny all by her onesies.” Saber said taking the knife from her daughter’s throat. Cate hand went up to her neck and you could see her hand shaking. “But Captain that means she must be marooned.” Saber looked from Dan’s concerned face to Cate’s terrified one. “Aye, that’s the truth lass. By the code of the pirates, If ye pulls a mutiny and don’t succeed, then ye must be marooned. Cate, be ready, tomorrow at sunrise, if I know where we are and I do, ye’ll have to take a short swim.” Cate couldn’t believe that Saber had absolutely no pity on her whatsoever and practical threw herself at the pirate’s feet. “I’m your daughter!” she yelled. “Aye and I’m yore mother, whom you just tried ta kill. Peter,” The old sailor stopped staring at Cate and looked at his Captain. “Yes Marm?” “Put her in the brig.” “Aye, aye Captain.” He said and hauling the girl up he dragged her below. Saber clasped a hand to her brow, and slowly pulled her hand down over her face. Then she left the small room and sat at the table. Dan stood nearby “Good God Dan, I curse the days I was on the Black Pearl while Barbossa was Captain.” “Do you intend to go through with it then?” “What else can I do? If I don’t the rest of the crew will mutiny and then either kill or maroon Cate and meself. I’ll just have to do it. Perhaps I’ll be able to persuade them to turn back and pick her up in a few days. Anyway, this may help to cool the girl down a bit.” “Saber…?” “Hmm?” “Who was Cate’s father? I thought I saw…I don’t know something about her eyes as she looked at you while Pete dragged her off.” “Not was man, IS. For all I know the bas***d is still alive. He died a few times but he always seems to turn up.” “So it’s as I thought?” “Aye. I gave it a long think and, well, who else could it be?” “I have no idea.”

Cate sat in the cell her arms crossed over her chest trying to stay a bit warm. She ran her fingers through her hair and then stood up. She passed back and forth trying to think of something else besides what lay ahead. She thought about Port Royal and all the happy memories. “Oh Josh, will I ever see you again?” She wondered to the cell bars. Then her mind brought back even earlier memories. She saw her mother only about twenty at the time standing on the deck of a ship waving goodbye. She had been three years old then. She remembered that right after that happened, British sailors swarmed the port and boarded ships giving chase to the small ship. Cate and the woman holding her had barely gotten away in time. They had ducked into an ally and watched. Cate didn’t remember much after that, just a lot of jumbled memories of people taking care of her, growing up like a street urchin, and being a nuisance to the navy, who she was sure, was the cause of her mothers departure. Then came the day that she had learned her mother was a pirate. Cate had feared the tales people told of these legendary fighters, and vowed she would never meet a pirate let alone become one. Cate stopped pacing and a sob shook her body. She couldn’t help it. Here she was on a pirate’s boat, ship; she corrected herself, and being tried as a pirate. She sat down in the cell not caring that the dress she wore was becoming dirty. “Nothing matters now, nothing.” Saber again lay down on her bunk and tried to sleep. She dreaded the coming dawn and willed it to not come, but come it did. Saber did not sleep the rest of that night, but watched as the sky became brighter and brighter. All too soon the sun poked its top over the horizon and as it did is saw Saber sitting at the table looking at a chart. “Aye, it’s as I suspected.” She sighed “Were nearing an Island. At least this one isn’t that blasted Rum Island that certain people keep getting stuck on.” Saber couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of Jack getting stuck on that Island at least twice, and then she herself had been marooned there. “No I won’t put my daughter through that. Besides I finished off the rum.” Cate awoke to the sound of jingling metal. She lifted her head and opened her eyes to see the young man that Saber called “Dan” standing there. He unlocked the door and stepped inside. Cate pushed herself back against the side of the ship as he came closer. “Don’t ye worry; I’m not ‘ere ta ‘arm ya.” He said with a smile. Cate found herself believing him and pulled herself out of a ball. “So is it time?” she asked a mite fearfully. “Nay lass, ya still have an hour ta go before that. I came ta give ya some advice and ta tell ya something mighty important.” He waited till he was sure Cate was really listening. “Cate yore mother don’t want ta see you in the brink and marooned any more than any mother would want their child.” He paused, but getting no reaction plowed ahead. “Yore mother has a plan to get you out of this but I don’t know what yet. Ya see were goin’ ta Tortuga where we’ll meet up with my older brother, who is the real owner of this fine boat. This crew is only temporary so that Saber could pick you up. When we get to Tortuga Saber will have to give the ship up. But I feel sure that somehow she’ll get my brother ta come back to the island so as to rescue you.” Cate rolled her eyes and stared incredulously at Dan raising her eyebrow just as Saber had done not long ago. “In the meantime, I have orders ta give ya food aplenty for a few days, as well as water and some rum.” At Cate’s disgusted look he explained “Rum will keep better than water, and it seems to make the time go faster. Don’t ask me how it just does.” With these words he pulled a canvas bag off his shoulder and handed it to her. “I’m sure with all those skirts and things ye wont have trouble hidin’ it.” “Hide it? Why would I want to do that?” “Because in the code of the pirates the most allowed to a marooned sailor is a pistol with one shot, and a bottle of water. Yore mother and I are riskin’ a lot givin’ you this stuff. The crew could kill us for breaking the code without their consent.” Cate looked up from the bag and looked puzzled. Dan didn’t say anything more but walked out of the cell and locked it again. After he had gone up on deck Cate asked herself, “Does she really care about what happens to me?”
Well I have started on chapter 4 but its not going well...oh well.
