Anamaria was born in Tortuga, but hardly satyed there at all. She didn't know her father (and knowing the island he could have been anyone), and her mother died in childbirth, so Ana was adopted by her Uncle, Captain of The Neptuner. She was taken abord the ship, and raised by the crew. A born Pirate!
When she was 16, she returned to Tortuga to make her own way in life. She bacame close friends with Beth Staxton, captain of The Siren, a ship completely crewed by women. Anamaria went abord, and after 3 months, became the first mate.
2 years later, when she was 18, The Siren was attacked by pirates. The crew defended the ship, and most suvived, but Beth was stabbed and sadly died. Anamaria became captain in place of her friend.
When the Siren was in Tortuga again, the crew left it at the dock. They never imagioned it would be stolen. But Jack Sparrow was looking for a ship, and decided on The Siren. Anamaria was just in time to see him sale out of the bay on her ship. She vowed she would never forgive him.
About a year later, she heard that Jack was around, and looking for a crew. She signed up, hoping to give him what he deserved, but the time never came. She helped rescue Elizabeth and Will, and finally went against all her instincts, and came for Jack as well.
But Ana was never really happy about sailing under Jack's orders, so she returned to Tortuga shortly afterwards. There she lives now, sometimes joining a crew for a while, but mainly just waiting. Waiting for the time when she'll find a new ship, and sail off into the distance.
