Name:Emma Hawkins
Age:22
Description: Of average build, slightly on the tall side.Eyes that have been called all shades of blue green and grey, but are generally the same color as the seas around her.Hair is long, almost all the way to her waist ,and a a color that's also impossible to classify, with bits of gold and red in a light brown base. She commonly wears mens clothes, with a black,moon-and-stars bandanna. She has no tattoos or piercings, but quite an impressive array of scars-a bullet hole in her left arm,a slash across her stomach, and a stab wound in the right shoulder being the most significant.
Emma was born in London to a wealthy silk merchant named William Hawkins and his wife. Her mother died soon after she was born. She spent the first twelve years of her life in miserable boredom. When Emma was nearing her thirteenth birthday, her father decided to move them to a new colony in the Carribean for business purposes.
A fortnight before they were due to land, their ship was boarded by pirates.Emma's father and the crew were all killed, but as the captain of the Hawk's Eye,Red MacKinnon, stood and leveled his pistol at Emma,he felt a hint of guilt- grown men were one thing, but this was a little girl.Emma caught his hesitation, and managed to talk her way onto his ship.
For the next four years, she lived on the Hawk's Eye. She earned her keep by climbing in the rigging where the older, heavier pirates couldn't go,spying on other pirates during their visits to Tortuga, and, when necessary, stalling British officers.Once she got over the loss of her father, she enjoyed herself immensely. The Captain's son,Rick, joined the crew soon after Emma, and they became close.Very close. The first mate,a man called Jacob Smith, had taken a liking to the girl for her usefulness, and he taught them both how to throw knives and sword fight.
One night, when Emma was seventeen, she returned from spying on Captain Coronado of the Kestrel's Flight to find the Hawk's Eye in flames. Her companions had left the boat, and she watched helplessly as they were slaughtered by the enemy crew. Before he fell,Jacob spotted her and cried,"Run,Hawkins, for God's sake, run!"She snapped out of her stupor and ran as fast as she could back into Tortuga, even as she heard his scream behind her.As she ran,she lost her black bandanna,a gift given to her by Rick some years ago.
For three days she stayed in the basement of the Boar and Hart Inn,crying silently for her fallen companions and her lost love.As soon as she dared venture into daylight, she stowed away on a merchant vessel en route to Port Royal.Emma lived in Port Royal for almost a year, tending the Governor's horses. But one night, when the summer breeze blew in from the harbor, the wanderlust rose in her again, and she feigned her own death and left Port Royal, finding her way back to Tortuga.Through an admittedly low-down bit of trickery, she found the captain responsible for her old crew's deaths, and stabbed him to death, wiping the blood on her knife on the man's shirt. She then went back to her usual lifestyle, finding work on whatever crews would take her on.However, since women on ships were considered bad luck, she was often stuck with the blame for the mistakes of others. In the next year and a half, she earned herself a grand total of six Black Spots from various crews, all of which she was able to avoid. She still keeps the scraps of paper inside her right boot,to remind herself that she is always in danger.
When she wasn't sailing, she spent most of her time in Tortuga, where she became close friends with an aquaintance of hers,a feared mercenary by the name of Kat Tompson.Though Emma took Kat into her confidance regarding most matters, she still never spoke to her or anyone about Rick or how she came to be a pirate.
One fateful day,Emma was walking along in Tortuga when she saw Kat with a young woman she introduced as Saber, her sister, and a member of the crew of the infamous Jack Sparrow. She was dragged along with them to Port Royal, where,to her surprise, she was reunited with Rick, who had spent a year after their old ship was burned searching for her, until he heard the tales in Port Royal of the grisly fate everyone speculated had befallen her and settled down to be the town drunk.Eventually, they both joined the crew of the Black Pearl, and they have been sailing under Jack for three years now.
