Name: Fujimiya "Itami" (originally Itsumi)
Also called: Pain
Origin: Japan
Age: unknown, appears in his late 20s
Physical description: tall (about 6' 4") // thin // very pale // shoulder-length, shaggy black hair // crooked teeth // prefers to wear Western-style attire and gold jewelry, most often stolen
Distinguishing features: wears a large amount of kohl under his right eye // self-inflicted scars all over his body // long scar from his forehead to his right cheek (also self-inflicted?)
Skills: trained in martial arts and a little in sword fighting, but prefers taunting his enemies from afar as opposed to an actual, physical fight // obsessed with torture and causing pain, he makes the perfect weapon for gathering information from stubborn captives
Background: Itami (originally Itsumi) grew up in a small village in Japan with his mother, two infant sisters, and his grandparents. He never knew his father, who had been killed by bandits before he was born. To survive, his family moved to a tiny village in the countryside, where his mother worked as a seamstress, and his grandmother sold simples. As a boy, his grandfather taught him martial arts and how to wield a sword, and even early on he was recognized as a skilled fighter in hand-to-hand combat. Then, when he was about eight or nine, his village was raided by a band of pirates, and he watched as his entire family was slaughtered before his eyes. Rather than killing him, too, however, the pirate captain brought him aboard their ship, raising him thereafter as one of their own. He changed his name to Itami, the Japanese word for "pain" -- not because of the sufferings of his childhood, but because of the pleasure he came to enjoy at bringing misery to others. In fact, he prided himself on his skill at torture, having immediately taken to what he saw as a form of subtle art. Due to his own twisted forms of training, he himself feels no pain, physically or mentally, making him a very dangerous enemy to encounter. Many consider him to be violently insane.
As for his loyalties, Itami professes to serve no master. He merely joins with whichever side he expects will take the most prisoners, and which side will be more...tolerant of his arts. After having met with Captain Barbossa somewhere in Spain, the two have developed an odd friendship, and have grown to trust one another despite their equally notorious reputations. To Barbossa, Itami is a powerful ally and a perfect weapon against his own many enemies. To Itami, Barbossa is a respectable leader and someone who will help bring him closer to the thing he wants most: innocent flesh to claim as his own.
And so that's Itami! Is he insane? Undoubtedly. But he's also lovable in his own, creepy, demented way. If any of you have seen the anime Weiss Kreuz, hes very much like Farfarello, except not Irish, and not on a weird crusade against God... (guess he's not that much like him after all, lol ) I plan to draw a picture of him soon, but for now I'm using Tusk from the Jrock back Zi:Kill. A nice resemblence, especially with the crazy hair and adorably crooked teeth.
If you want to see him in action (before this coming RPG) check out the Torture Chamber in Ilsa de Meurta. It's tons of fun. *grin*
