Mark smiled back at Eric and watched as he left the nest. He sat there a moment and then went down himself. He couldn't wait to get on some land. It had seemed like forever since he'd seen land. He cursed Puck under his breath. If the thing could transport them to this ship why didn't he save some trouble and drop them on an island. He figured the thing either had a reason or was just stupid. He walked to the front of the ship and looked on awaiting their stop at the island that was now getting bigger every minute.
"Not long till I can get this over with and put it all behind me."
He said to himself.

Having Eric this close was comforting and it eased the rush of pain that had clouded her mind. Hearing his voice gently hum its way to her ears was also reassuring and she at least broke a smirk. At the moment, she wasn't too much in the mood for being all too happy just yet and so at Eric's small attempt at a joke she could only tug the corner of her lips upwards briefly before allowing them to sink down. "I s'ppose she did." She said with a forced chuckle.
Slowly, she untangled her arms from his, placed a small kiss on his cheek, and instead sought his hand in hers. Grasping it gently, she gave it a squeeze, bit down on her bottom lip and closed her eyes. "Eric...I, I know why you can' fix things. Why no one could, maybe ye've got some advice but I dunno how much it'll help. I'll tell you why I can never get rid of my nightmares, why I s'ppose, in a way, I refuse to let 'em go, savvy?"
Her eyes brushed over the smooth decks of the ship once before noting they had attracted too many wandering eyes and she pulled him along, leading him away and towards her cabin. If she was going to spill the beans, she wasn't about to do so here. Her hand firmly held onto his as she head below decks, only the dull thud of their boots resounding in the barren hallway. Making her way past three doors, she stood in front of her own and then gently opened it.
As she opened it, she hid behind it slightly and then gave a small, reassuring, nod of her head to signal Eric could enter. Her eye quickly went to her bedsheet and she noticed it was bunched and rolled into a mess. Evelyn had had a rough couple of nights without him. Her pillow lay tossed in a corner of the room, she still wasn't too sure how that had occured, and an empty couple of rum bottles clinked slightly as the ship rocked in accordance with the veritable sway of the sea. With an extended creak the door was shut and Evelyn took a deep breath as she faced it before she was able to swing around.
"Haven' gotten much sleep 'gain, as ya can see." She half murmered, again brushing a hand through her curls, and placing the other upon her hip. "I've eh...had a couple nights ta just think things over. It hasn' hit me till jus' now though, or, at least I don' think I've accepted it till now." Evelyn paced slightly as she spoke, heading towards her wash basin and then peering out the port hole. "I, I, I won' go inta details 'cause well...ye know what happened...no need fer tha'..." she said slowly, as if contemplating how to word it all.
She turned on her heel, paced, then paused, and paced again. "I's a difficult matter I s'ppose bu'...well it's me. S'not like anything with me's easy, you should know tha' by now." A precarious smile broke then. Finally, after a few quiet moments she took up Eric's hands in hers and led him towards her bed where she sat upon its edge, facing him, deciding this was the best way to tell him. She wasn't going to hide things from him anymore, he didn't deserve it, and at least this way he may understand why he couldn't help her.
"C, Captain Carcassas killed my father." Evelyn stated plainly. "Don' know if you knew tha' but he did. Boasted about it a lot in my presence really. What happened to me on the Devil's Wrath Eric...well I never truly got my just vengeance. When I was marooned, tossed aside, I never heard from, or saw any of Carcassas crew again. The men who...well...forced themselves I guess you could say, on me well I never exacted my revenge. At night, sometimes...I, I picture it. Finally taking their lives, giving them pain, dealing with that swine of a man Carcassas, achieving my justice, but it never happened; at least where it mattered anyway. In the real world. I suppose it might never happen. My nightmares...they're a way to do that I guess. There a way to give them what they...what they, I believe anyway, deserve." Evelyn said this all a bit quickly, as if saying it so fast would somehow make it all pass painlessly, but it was proving difficult. Her eyes closed sharply then and she bit her lip before peering up at him again.
Her honey eyes glanced up at his and she placed a warm hand upon his cheek gently, caressing his jaw, and giving a quizzical look. "Are ye with me so far mate?" she asked, making sure to see if he was indeed ready to take this all in and what he thought before she proceeded.

*Eric looked at Evelyn with shock and then almost as if he thought she was joking with him when she said she was almost "holding onto" her nightmares. However when he noticed the lack of jest in her honey eyes his own went serious. He allowed her to lead him below decks and to the cabin. The silent walk broken only by their clunking boots made him nervous. With every step they took they were drawing nearer to her cabin, nearer to the secret she was about to reveal to him. He had been wanting her to tell him this for years and now that she was about to he was nervous about it, though he couldn't pinpoint why. Either way though he wanted to hear it. He wanted to understand her better, understand why her mind was so horribly haunted in the clutches of the night....understand why she was letting the nightmares go on.
As he entered the room his eyes roamed about it and he felt more guilty then ever for leaving her by herself the past couple of nights. He stooped over and grabbed the pillow, chucking it back onto the bed as he stood by the edge of it himself. He swallowed hard and watched her pace the room. When she said she'd had a couple things to think things over his brow lifted and for a moment he wondered if she was about to take another slam at him. He wrung his hands together in front of him and looked over at the rum bottles that rhythmically clunked together with every tilt of the ship.
He nodded softly when she said there was no need to go into details. She'd told him once already about the things that happened to her on the ship. That was pleanty of times for him to hear it, he wouldn't ask her to recap it for him again. Suddenly he smiled slightly and gave a quiet chuckle. It was true, she was the most difficult, outspoken, independent women he had ever known. And all those things were a huge part of why he loved her so much. After a moment she scooped up his hands and sat down in front of him on the bed. He looked down at her, a gentle look upon his face.
His brow furrowed at the mention of Captain Carcassas being the one who killed her father. He remembered how awful he felt the day he went back to the burned wreckage of her fathers map shop after hearing that the man had been murdered. He had been so kind to Eric and his mother when they needed help. For a moment he looked away as her story began. Anytime she talked about the way she had been used by those men it bothered him. Not because he thought any less of her but because it hurt him to think she went through something so awful when she didn't deserve it. He looked back at her as she began to talk of how she'd dream of executing revenge on those men.
As she caressed his jaw he placed his hand atop hers and for a long moment said nothing. He could only stand there and look her over. It was painful to hear, he couldnt begin to imagine how painful it must be to tell. Finally with a heavy sigh he sat down beside her, holding both of her hands in his and he nodded.* I am *He said in a voice that urged her to continue. Slowly, things were starting to become more clear for him now. He remembered how he had once lusted to kill the man who had murdered Ashley. Eric never found him and at times it would creep into his mind and taunt him still. If he saw him now he would of course still kill him but to let Ashley go he had to let her murderer go as well. Unfortunantley for Evelyn she had nothing to let go of and he could see her point. Her nightmares were her revenge.*

Evelyn's eyes looked him over calmly as his hand rested upon hers. It seemed as if he indeed wanted to hear it and noting the few times he turned his face away she noted a bit of guilt in his eyes.
"Anyway, I'm afraid because, someone told me once...before I met you, before I met Jack, before I met any of the crew in fact; that I needed to exact my revenge or I'd never find peace. I was told if I didn't exact it from those that had done me harm then I could possibly take it from those nearest me." Her voice faded slightly, finally recalling the events that had taken place when this small prophecy was revealed. She bit her lip nervously and looked away from his gaze then, reverting to pulling her hands away as well.
"The times I tried letting it go, the hatred for them, attempted forgetting about it, I ended up doing horrible things, Eric. When I was awake, my anger was released in a different way, a terrible one. I, I did things that weren't excusable and I guess I've always denied ridding myself of my nightmares because I was afraid it would happen again." Her hands shook slightly as she told him all of this. Evelyn had brushed all of this under the rug, kept it locked away, and had been in denial of this for so long that she had nearly forgotten.
"In a way Eric, I'm trapped. If, if I let go of the anger, attempt to block out the nightmares, it'll only result in something worse. With the nightmares I can deal with what I do or what happens, sometimes events are just repeated over and over but at least I won't hurt anyone...I won't hurt you..." Her eyes lifted and gazed into his for a few moments. " Before it was alright, trying to let it go was just a task for me to do, but then when I met you and we became so close...well...I knew I never could get rid of it." She said this in a melancholic tone. Although her nightmares would persist as a result of him being near, she would allow it to go on in a heartbeat.
"I've not heard any word of the Devils' Wrath former crew, nor of the Captain Carcassas and so I suppose I might never get my revenge. Unless I do then I won't be able to complete suffocate the hatred deep within, mate. For now though, pain in dreams is much better than any tangible one, savvy?" She lifted her hand to his cheek. "Please understand. Understand now why it is you can't help it. Why I have to sacrifice some sleep, why I'd sacrifice never getting any at all if it meant not hurting you. And well, ever since we've been so close I've had to endure it."
Evelyn stopped then, allowing the words to sink in. She hoped she hadn't bombarded him with too much all at once but it really was something she finally needed to tell him so that he understood his place. There was no helping it and he had to understand. Maybe now there wouldn't be so much pressing for it, so much force to try and bring it out of her head. In her head it was bareable, in her head she would never hurt him, and that's all that mattered to her at the moment.
"I've thought about going after him, finally being able to let all of this go, but now it seems impossible. Understand, Eric." Her voice half pleaded now and her eyes were sad as she spoke but stern in her conviction. She only hoped it would not stir a resolve to seek out her fromer crewmates. Evelyn would love to get her revenge, yes, but she wasn't about to put him at risk for it.
"So let it be, alright mate?" She asked as she gently leaned in and kissed his cheek. "Let it be, I'll have my nightmares, and you'll be safe. Its the way of the world." Her voice ended with a heavy sigh. Evelyn was ready to accpet this for her.

*Eric looked at her bewildered when she said she was told if she didnt get revenge on those who had harmed her she may take it out on those nearest to her. He wondered what exactly she meant by this. Did she mean she may hurt him or one of the crew? Or had she already and just not spoken of it to anyone? When she pulled her hands away he set his own upon his knees, messing absent mindedly with the creases in his pants.
His questions were quickly answered and he looked at her with worry in his eyes, not for himself but for her. What was it that she had done....and had she done it to someone? Everything she was telling him did one of two things, answered all his old questions or brought up a whole stream of new ones. The corners of his mouth fell a little and he nodded when she explained that she was trapped but needed it to be that way to protect him.* I can protect myself, Evy. *He said in almost a mumble. He knew that she was a force to be recokened with but couldn't bring himself to see her as any kind of a threat, at least not to him.
However he understood what she needed to do. This was one thing he had to step aside and let her deal with on her own, no matter how much it pained him. With a heavy sigh his dark eyes locked upon hers and he smiled faintly.* Alright, I'll try. *He said in a promising tone. Slowly he stood and kissed her forehead before glancing out the port hole. They'd be on the island any moment now. Looking back at her he slipped his arm about her shoulders and squeezed her softly.* Well you may always have your nightmares but I promise Ill always be there for you when you wake up again. *He said warmly, smiling down at her. If he couldn't help her get rid of the nightmares he could at least help her recover from the aftermath of them.*

Evelyn scanned him over tenderly and noted he seemed worried. A small lump developed once again in her throat as he spoke. He could take care of himself alright she supposed but not against what she might be capable of. He, of all of the crew, was perhaps the most vulnerable to her. She bit her nails a bit, or what was left of them as he stood, kissed her brow, and then walked to peer out the porthole.
For a moment it seemed a small glint of sunshine broke free. Its warm, buttery, color gently skimming over Eric and she smirked slightly. Looking down at her nails a bit she noted how they pretty much were gnawed as far as they could go. She really had to stop chewing them away like this, Eric was right, again, though she knew this was a habit she could never rid herself of. Some habits seemed to linger, cling like a resistful last chill of winter, and Evelyn was always covered in some kind of soft frost.
Her eyes peered upwards at Eric as he stood there for a moment and she slowly got up and walked towards him. For a moment she was contented with simply watching Eric on his own. He stood so tall, so secure, something Evelyn never, deep down anyway, could ever achieve. Evelyn wondered sometimes whether that security she felt around him would ever fade. The sun still shined down upon him brightly when he casually slipped his arm about her shoulders. His words were once again, for the millionth time, comforting.
Her own sought its place around Eric's waist, her head gently falling to rest on his shoulder. She only sighed heavily mate. With a small smirk she commented, "Always? Even after drinkin' matches?" she asked looking up at him briefly not really expecting an answer to that. Instead, for the moment, she was content to stand there and linger in the small moment of sunlight with him, warm, and safe.

*Eric looked down at her and grinned boyishly, nodding his head.* Even after bloody drinking matches. *He laughed, shaking his head and rolling his eyes. Besides, maybe someday she'd actually win one and he'd be the lucky guy that got to celebrate with her. Could make for a rather enjoyable time so he figured he better stick it out.
Now that he had the knowledge of why she kept her nightmares he felt it even more important to be there for her when she awoke. He hadn't realized his presence, even when sleeping, comforted her that much. Of course her company gave him pleasure and security beyond anything he could comprehend, he just hadn't thought it would be that way for her. Now that he knew it was he couldn't help the smile that had plastered itself upon his lips.
Glancing out the port hole again he noted the dock outside, littered with other ships of various importance and size. Giving Evelyns shoulders a squeeze he looked down at her again with warm brown eyes.* Looks like we're here! *He exclaimed, leading her up on the deck. He loved the land and with Evy at his side, loved it even more so. She always managed to turn a completley dull port into one of chaos and adventure...it was something he had grown to look forward to everytime they found themselves on land.*

She half groaned as Eric let out the single phrase that seemed to escape his lips with utter enthusiasm each time. "Ugh, land?" she half groaned but no sooner had she begun her protest against it, than she was being pulled away towards the decks. "Gah, bloody hell...I hate this. Why can' we just sail to sea and never look back?" she muttered as she stared out into the busy port before them. They had one thing going for them at least, and that was that no one recognized the ship they sailed in with.
"Gah, if it weren't for you I wouldn't step foot on bloody land, ya know tha'?" she said as she lifted a curved brow. Taking the flask from her hip Evelyn gave a nice long swig of the substance before she made towards the docks. "Let's get this over with I suppose." He said with half a concealed burp.
Following the others down the plank as they docked, she distinctly recalled a shout coming from the decks about being back by nightfall and Evelyn knew it all too well to be her Captain's. "Right, right!" she called back at him, tossing her head back a bit but staring ahead still with an attentive gaze. "Where in the bloody 'ell are we?" Evelyn then asked she gazed around. The people here all gave her a bit of a glance but nothing that would indicate they had grown any suspicions about her at all.
Taking a few steps forward a shout came her way and she instantly took a step back, rolling right down where she had last stood, several peeved sailors angrily took their barrels down the docks, disappearing into the swarming crowd. "Hm, ya know mate?" she began as Eric joined her side. " What I really might like about now...some scarves." She said with a bit of a chuckle as she jangled the pouch at her side.
She gave him a bit of a wink and then headed out into the crowd, suddenly beginning to scan the streets for those shops that carried the most obnoxiously colored hues and dyes of scarves. The streets were lined with small shop stands. Fruits seemed to spill over the sides of one to whom a lady with a small straw hat screamed and bellowed over. The smell of fresh fish drifted Evelyn's way as she passed a Fishmongerer's, and a large pile of coconuts sat the at the very edge of one. "Coconut miss?" the man asked Evelyn anxiously as she passed by his stand. He'd gone so far as to place a hand upon her shoulder and she furrowed her brows looking him over oddly before rolling her eyes.
"Bloody hell...now WHY would you sell coconuts when I could go over there..." Evelyn now lifted a finger and pointed at the not so distant palm tree swaying upon a pearly white beach. "...take this cutlass.." she pat the sword tied to her hip then. "...and bloody cut myself down a dozen for no price at all?" With that she rolled her eyes and stole away, her mouth clearly distracting the man, while the other sneekily, rolled a coconut to the ground off the edge of the shop stand, and kicked it softly ahead where, once lost in the crowd, she scooped it up and grinned.

Mark thought about it a bit more before he came to a conclusion. He decided to tell him. He would tell him everything. He only hoped that the boy would understand. The ship had docked and he figured it was as good as time as any to tell him. How it would hurt him to tell. He found Sam strolling among some small shops and moving into the jungle that lay beyond the small village. Mark followed him in and then began to talk with him.
"Do you remember how we met Sam? You were in trouble with your old boss, remember that you stole some of his money? He sent men after you to kill you. I managed to beat them off of you. The bounty on your head was so high anyone would have killed you for it."
He did not want to continue but he had to.
"We became friends after that. I took you in and tried to make an honest man out of you. But it was hard for a man that has been so dishonest."
He saw a change come over Sam's face. He could tell that the lad was confused.
"I have never been entirely honest about who I am Sam. The truth was...I was hired by him to kill you. I'm an assasin Sam. But I made the mistake of getting to know you...after I learned more about you I could not kill you. But instead I protected you. During my pirate days, I became handy at dealing out death to put it simply. So that became my trade. You know why I went on the last cruise with Jack Sparrow? It was to kill him...you can only imagine how many men want him dead. The price on his head was so high I could not resist it. I had tried to make an honest living when I came to Port Royal. But an honest living is hard to live. That is why I am here now...to kill Jack Sparrow to finish what I have begun...but...I do not think I can do it. Sure he is a pig, a drunk, a fool, maybe even a traitor, but I am too I suppose. He has the respect of his crew, all of them...that is enough for me. I don't think I can kill him now...unless he manages to give me another reason to before the journey is done. Keep an eye out Sam. I'm sure your ex boss has eyes all over the Carribbean. If they spot you, me, or Jack they will kill us all."
It was not easy for Mark to tell him this, but it had to be done. The two walked back towards the village silently and never looking at each other. They came to the small village and sat beneath a palm tree waiting for Jack's orders.

The beauty of the island was suddenly shattered by the news from Mark. He didn't know what to say.
"Do I really even know you then "friend."? How do I know you don't still intend to kill me, or Jack for that matter?"
They sat beneath a palm tree. The salty breeze ran cool over his face.
"You know me...that is the only thing I haven't told you. I don't intend to kill you...but Jack I'm not so sure about...I can find as many reasons to kill him as to keep him alive. Besides if I killed him that would start a war between me and the rest of the crew...we both know how that would end."
"You've really got some skeletons in your closet haven't you? Well I need some time alone. Don't worry I'll keep my eyes out for anyone that looks like they want to kill me...people like you!"
Sam yelled as he walked away. He saw Evy out the corner of his eye and his spirits were suddenly lifted. He knew she was with Eric but he couldn't help himself. He walked up to her and smiled and waved.
"Hello there Evy. Nice day for a landing don't you think. The sunset fits you well, it compliments your eyes."
He bent down and kissed her hand and prayed that he wouldn't be layed out by the much larger Eric
"Would you care to go on a walk? I don't believe we've talked too much. I like to know the people that I travel with. It would truely be an honor to get to know you."
He smiled brightly at her and tried not to look too scared of Eric. He figured if he was going to get a pounding he might as well do something to deserve it.

Evelyn had been passing down the small dirt street calmly before a familiar voice broke the silence. A bit startled she dropped her coconut and peered ahead to spot Sam. A soft smile crept into place and she picked up her coconut carefully. " 'Ey mate, ye gotta be a bit more careful on how ya intraduce yerself to me." She said and then leaned in a bit as she whispered, " ESPECIALLY after I've stolen something." She commented as she gave him a small wink. As he spoke her grin widened even further but she slightly rolled her eyes. "Hehe...ya know mate, we need ta work on yer truth tellin' skills. We all know I'm not bloody matchin' a sunset." She said with a small laugh.
He took up her hand then and laid a small kiss upon it and she shook her head slightly but grinned all the while. "Well aren' you the gentleman?" she asked as she lifted a curved, brown, brow. As he asked her to go on a walk with him she gave a glance behind her towards Eric. He seemed to be lagging behind a bit, still within range of earshot, but wasn't too present at the moment. "Hm, I don' see why not." She said curtly, giving a small nod of her head.
She placed a hand upon his shoulder gently, squeezed, and then began her small walk with him through the small crowd of people. The sun was bright and warm upon her skin. The gulls ahead squawked unapologetically and she gazed around a bit as the small shops soon were fading. "So Sam...tell me a bit 'bout yourself." She finally said as she let out a bit of a sigh. Her eyes glanced up briefly at the golden near the horizon, and then landed softly on him. She flipped her head a bit then, causing her curls to ripple behind her shoulder and out of her way as she looked over the recently stolen coconut. Her eyes scanned it over meticulously as if by mere sight she could tell how sweet its milk would be.

He was quite pleased that she had agreed to go on a walk with him. They began to walk and she asked him about himself.
"Well...growing up I spent most of my time with my mother since my dad was in the military. When I got older I joined the military and ended up under my fathers command...I'm sure you can imagine how that went. I killed some people. Went to Port Royal, got into some trouble with my old boss...met Mark...recently found out he was hired to kill me...you know how it is..."
He tried to sound unconcerned with the last part, but secretly he wanted her to question him further on the subject...that way he couldn't be accused of outright telling others about Mark. The two walked along and he stopped and turned to Evy.
"What about you? Tell me of you?"

Evelyn walked on further with Sam, looking over a few things as they passed the dirt road and soon ended up with sand underneath their feet. The sand itself seemed to shimmer in the dying rays of the sun and Evelyn smiled happily at the calm, serene, scene before them. Her mind was in tune and she caught every word Sam said, something Evelyn had picked up over the years, being able to multitask quite seamlessly. A few things had caught her off gaurd and she lifted her brows a bit. "You were in the military?" she asked with a bit of a surprised tone. Sam did appear younger than her, yet perhaps not so far from her own age of 23.
She bit her lip slightly and looked down, she never liked hearing others having experiences with death. Evelyn had had her fair share of it and knew the changes it could stir in people, although, from the time she was spending around Sam she didn't seem to feel too much disturbance coming from him inwardly and she only hoped Sam had taken the subject very well. She ran a hand through her curls and stared out at a small bunch of palm trees gathered together. The soft rush of the sea was heard as it creeped into the beach and then out again. The last bit of his phrase then truly hit her and she jumped slightly.
"Bloody 'ell...what? Mark tried ta kill ya?" she asked him with a worried tone and tossing a glance at Mark as he sat beneath a palm in the distance. "W,what happened with that? Why?" she asked but before she was able to press him further on the matter he abruptly stopped and asked her about herself. Evelyn stopped, biting her bottom lip slightly and sighed heavily. It didn't bother her too much telling others about her past, but she only hoped this information wouldn't change the way he saw her.
"Well...mother died when I was young...father was killed by a pirate...joined a crew...pillaged, raided, plundered, all that good stuff..." she said all in a hurried tone. "Erm...hm...then I met Jack's crew, been sailin' with them fer 'bout four years now...met Eric in Port Royale maybe...three years ago or somethin' close to that." She stated as she looked behind her briefly, hoping to spot Eric close by. She turned her head back around then and looked Sam over carefully. "And then...well he left for a bit..." Her tone lowered slightly then, recalling the day Eric had blatatnly left her upon the ship and decided land was the best home for him.
"We were apart fer oh...maybe a year. Missed him a lot." She stated a bit bitterly. "An' he seemed to have gotten over me quite quickly...when I found him again he was with someone else..." she stated with a bit of a laugh though a bit of a disappointed look came over her honey, bright eyes. "But...all in the past I s'ppose..." she said with a shrug and a sigh as again her eyes left to watch over the glimmering seas before them.

Sam listened as best he could. The sea gulls were making an awful racket as they swooped down and took unsuspecting clams from the sand.
"Sorry 'bout your folks. So Eric left you for a year did he? Seems odd too me...if you love someone why would you just leave and "get over them" so quickly. I don't believe he was over you though Evy. He likely only thought he was.
About Mark...he was hired to kill me, but he obviously never did. He was hired by my old boss, cause I stole some money from him. But Mark couldn't do it...then he went on the last voyage to kill Jack for the bounty placed on him...but he couldn't do that either...I think he is fed up with killing you know...he has too many demons already...I don't think he wants to add more. He did however say he didn't know if he could keep himself from killing Jack, but I don't think we have to worry about that. He said we should worry about the Boss' men that he has all over the Carribbean. Looking for me, and Jack I'm sure, maybe even Mark since he didn't kill me. It's odd how you can know all there is to know about someone...and yet...learn more. Take you for instance...I'm sure you know all there is to know about Eric, but you'll always learn more about him...sometimes it's good...sometimes it's bad. You just never know what the tide will bring in."
He looked at her with pleased eyes. He felt comfortable with her, and enjoyed being around her. He'd heard her yell quite a bit, but that didn't seem to matter to him. He looked her in the eye as they walked and asked a question he hadn't even noticed he asked till it was too late.
"Do you love him?"
He stopped suddenly upon uttering the words. He hadn't the slightest clue as to where they had come from. He looked around quickly as if searching for a bird that had spoken the words. Then back at Evy with confused eyes. He couldn't say anything...

*Eric grinned down at Evelyn as she went into her usual routine of complaining about being on land. It was funny how they differed in that away, Eric so attached to solid ground while Evelyn would rather spit on it. It was why he had chosen to follow her out to the sea as opposed to making her stay with him in Port Royal. He could stand the sea more then she could stand land, it was as simple as that.
When she asked where they were he shrugged.* How the hell should I know? *He asked, looking around at the passerbys. It certainly didn't seem like an uptight pompus place like Port Royal, nor did it seem as rambuncious and entertaining as Tortuga. It sat comfortably in the middle, or so Eric thought. When she said she wanted some scarves he just laughed and followed her through the crowd.
He shoved his hands in his pockets and rocked on his heels as she got into an argument with the coconut saler. He grinned when he noticed her slyly sneaking one of the brown balls from the man and looked around as if he hadn't saw anything at all. When she continued on he tipped his head to the man and scurried after her, smiling proudly.* You do a damn good job at that, Evy. *He laughed, jabbing his thumb at the coconut.
Suddenly a familiar voice popped up behind them and made a comment about the sunset and Evelyns eyes. Erics own eyes narrowed as he jerked his head around to see who was directing the flatery at her. It was Sam. He cleared his throat as if acknowledging his presence as the lad began talking to Evelyn but not to him. Eric didn't like this at all. He was jealous, it felt like Sam was trying to pry Evelyn from him in some way.
When Evelyn rolled her eyes and said she didn't match a sunset Eric smiled.* Of course you don't. A sunset cant hold a candle to your eyes. *He said trying to one up Sam. He looked at the man as if he had just won some sort of contest with this remark. However when the man kissed her hand and asked her on a walk his face fell again and he looked her over to see if she'd accept.
He noticed her nod her head and take up the offer and his brow furrowed. Now he knew what she felt like that time he was off talking to Sarah who had seemed to like him at the time. None the less he folded his arms and looked away, staying in his place as they walked off without him. Somehow this made him feel abandoned, though he knew it was a ridiculose feeling. He watched them walking and saw her look back at him as her mouth was moving. Where they talking about him now?
As she looked away again he nonchalantly began to follow, though from anyone elses perspective it was obvious to see he was trying to keep them in his sites. He was close enough now to hear Sams bit of the conversation, about not leaving if you really loved someone. Erics eyes narrowed on the man bitterly and his jaw clenched. It relaxed again as the words continued. Sam was right for once, Eric never had gotten over Evelyn during that time. He had realized rather quickly he'd made the biggest mistake of his life leaving her behind. No one made him happier then Evelyn. Even Ashley couldnt hold a candle to her. When she came back after that year Eric had known then that he would never leave her again. This thought made him smile and some of the jealousy and anger slipped from him. He was about to trot up alongside them when Sam said something that made him stop dead in his tracks. "Do you love him?" What kind of question was that? Of course she loved him! But none the less Eric found himself straining his ears to hear her answer.
However he must have been leaning forward to far and toppled over, landing on his stomach with a grunt. Not wanting to miss what she had to say he jumped up quickly, looking around blushiing to see if anyone noticed. Figuring no one had he leaned against a palm tree, his arms folded as he watched the sunset but listened for Evelyns voice. *
